Gentlemen,
A friend asked me to post this question for him. He has a Ruger 77/22 in 22 Hornet and is considering rechambering it to 22 K-Hornet. The question is, will the magazine take the improved round as-is, or will there have to be mods made? Has anyone done this?

I had a 77 Hornet, and sold it because I like the K better. The rest of the story is : after I sold it, I tried feeding K hornet cases through the magazine and there was no problem apparent. Of course, I could not push them all the way into the normal Hornet chamber, but they fed far enough to be released properly by the magazine lips. If I had it to do over, I would have kept the rifle and cut the chamber to K!

I do have 3 other K Hornets to offset my unhappines though!

Dogleg,
I had one I really liked too. I wanted to change it to .22 K Hornet but after going over the mag a bit, I decided it wasn't worth it. I sold the 77/22 and bought a Ruger #3 in .22 KHornet then another single in the same chambering. The KHornet is great and I really liked my 77/22, but they didn't go together easily. I think you might end up where I am. The little Ruger mags are hard to do anything with. At least in my experience.
I have a KHornet reamer and the rifles are turning out great.

To get full capacity and easy feeding you have to take the mag apart and do a little metal removal with a Dremel tool. It has been a while since I did one but I don't think it took any more than half hour at most.
