Ruger 77/22 or 40X

I was wondering if anyone knows were i could pick up a polished stainless Ruger 77/22 (older style with V-Block for barrel swaps) or a Remington 40X. Looking at building a new target rig.

Those rifles are worlds apart in value and in what each offers. What sort of target rifle were you wanting to build ? There may be something that is available now if that is the range you're looking at. eg CZ, Savage, Anschutz.

Im looking at building a benchrest rifle i know that the 40x action is amazing but i heard of people rebarreling the 77/22 with match chambers and getting good results. I will not be using the rifle for any serious competitions more for friendly competitions with my brother and friends. I already have 2 CZ rimfires a 10/22 and a marlin semi auto and i love them but im looking for a bolt action with a polished stainless action as i would like the rifle to be a a little more flashy. Im looking for a donor action as im planning on rebarreling and putting on a BR stock. If you know any companies that make good actions that are available in canada i would also consider that.

I believe to 40x would be far better than then 77/22 but keep in mind they arent the easiest to find in Canada.

Given the choice, I'll take the 40x any day of the week...
