ok i have been testing the barnes 225 gr solid copper bullets in my rifle (shooting into water jugs) and i noticed on most of the bullets one of the groves is only half way up the bullet? i have shot other rounds like the 240 gr win white box and some remanufactured stuff and all the lands and groves we perfect and complete. so im woundering if there is a problem with the bullets?

Is it just ONE of the rifling marks with this bullet...or with this particular bullet, ALL of the rifling marks seem to be shorter?

it is just one rifling mark thats shorter. 3out of 3 bullets i tested had this problem. no its only one rifling mark thats shorter. like i said befor on other bullets i tested like win white box they never had this problem.

Take a micrometer to test the diameter of some test bullets, before firing. You will be checking for uniformity of the overall diameter. Test fire them and check the bullet for uniformity and deformation to see whether that is an issue. The problem I see is that there should be deformation from hitting the target.

Try this same procedure - say with the white box and another sample to see if there is the same pattern to the markings. You already wrote that there is not, but won't hurt to check again.

If it is the same, or similar (maybe not to the same degree) you may have a barrel rifling out of spec. I cannot imagine how this would occur, but it could be a possibility.

Off hand, my guess is that you will find the (unfired) bullet itself to be out of round or with a slight difference in overall specification or shape.
