Ruger 77/44 - Looking for Input

all perfect sense, both are great fun rounds to shoot, no 'buts' about it
For now I'm just using some handloads that are cross-overs for a S&W 29, so slow in the rifle, new loads will be full power

semi 12 ga thumper is good too, I have an older 11-87 with long and short 18"? maybe tube with rifle sights on, will probably have a Burris Speedbead soon

I've had 2 of them
Great rifles but they need the mccarbo pro trigger kit. 30 bucks. Makes a great trigger. Easy install. They have a video how to do it.
I use a Remington 788 44 mag bolt now.
I've tested tons of ammo. The Winchester white or Magtech 240gr soft points are great hunting ammo. They go around 1800fps.

Mason leather on YouTube has testing videos on a bunch ammo into ballistics gel. Check him out
The 77/44 mag sucks for getting out but it's not an issue if you are patient.
Get one.

The magazine takes a little practice to get out quickly. On the plus side you won't lose one on the field if the release button is hit accidentally.

I have had half a dozen 77/44's and 77/357's... great little rifles. I never had problems with the triggers or the scope rings... I shot 3 or 4 deer with the .44 version, and it put them down about like a .308... longest shot was a little under a hundred yards. Accuracy was decent on all of them with my reloads (if you get the rifle I can PM my load data). The mags sticking is a quick fix of about 60 seconds with a fine flat file. The biggest problem for.me was the restrictive magazine length, but I just loaded to the longest length that would function flawlessly with whatever bullet I was using and called it good. I shot alot of the 225 FTX and 240 jacketed.

This sounds like an interesting modification. What part do you file? The mag or the magwell? And where exactly do you file it?

If you look at the mags, most of them have some manufacturing "flare" from top to bottom on the sides... this is what grabs the magwell and makes it difficult to remove the mag. Just use a flat file to take off a little of the flare... go slow and keep checking the mags in the well until they drop free easily... it usually doesn't take much.

Many thanks! I'll give it a try.

I owned a couple 77/44. Shot as well as could be expected to 100 yards.
Best I could do with load development was 1.5 inches. It was consistent as well.
Never had an issue with the trigger.
