Ruger 77-44

And this longer barreled one will keep them dead longer!

I have one of the 77/44 in SSt.Shoots sub moa but not with the Barnes X.
For some reason the X bullet really copper fouls the barrel in this one.
First time I ever had this happen with X bullets. OK Doug I got ya.:p DAN>>>

I bought one new at Gagnon's a couple of years ago. Put less than 100 rounds through it and the stock cracked at the tang. Returned it, waited for Ruger to do something for the better part of a year. Got it back with a new stock, much prettier than the original. Still can't find a load, factory or handload, that shoots worth a d**n. It's a pity, because this is one nice looking gun that's fun to shoot.

And for the record, it has accounted for several of the zombies piled up in the woods behind the barn.

Oh, wait...those are cats....

either you are reading that backwards or i need to work on my grammar/drink more coffee.
i think its one of those evil double-negatives...
let me try again:

noone will argue the fact that a lever is faster than a bolt-action.

Nope, you were right the first time.

Unless you were trying to say that some guy named "Noone" (I knew a guy named Nooney once) would argue that a Lever is not as fast as a bolt. If that's what you're saying I think Nooney needs a slap. Levers are generally faster than bolts. Just ask Nooney!

Thanks for the input.
I have been looking for one and have read that they are not all that accurate and I see that is somewhat true.
It is interesting though how a question on a specific rifle went off on a tangent about what the best 44 mag rifle is, and then into a discussion on the best bbl. length of lever actions. I do own a Model 94 in 44 Mag, and find it a very nice rifle to carry and shoot and would not trade it for any other 44. I was just looking to add to the collection as I would like a lever and a bolt action in all the calibers that I use.
After I had a chance to look at all the posts, there is ony a few who actually have experience with the 77-44.
Thanks again for the posts.

I bought a s/s synthetic stocked 77/44 for my wife to use as a camp/defense gun...

It was a very fun little rifle and she enjoyed it a lot.

We sold it because she got pregnant and I had told her I would match whatever money she came up with for a crib/bedroom set...

Our little guy has a very nice bedroom... :)

I bought the rifle Camp Cook sold, it took a little work finding the loads it liked best, but it shoots very well. I like the detachable mag over the tube fed lever actions, I wanted it stainless/synthetic, and I like bolt guns so it was an easy choice for me.
I would go the 77/44 over any of the levers but it all comes down to personal preference.

$550, faster, more accurate, more rugged/reliable and will kill anything in N America including zombies, yetis and rabid bears :)

You said earlier you have never owned a 77/44, now the lever action is more accurate, and reliable? The original post is aimed at those of us who have actually used the 77/44 not those of us who have an opinion.:slap:
