I have just purchased one which is from the first year of production and has never been fired. It came with all accessories and manuals but no box. I will be looking for a box! A very well made piece by a company known for their quality. I see the bluing on the receiver is turning plum colour like some of the older Blackhawks do. I wonder if there is anyone here who shoots one and if they could share some of their load information with me?

Ruger got into that when Remington did. Both companies almost got it right but never got past open breach and caps so crud got everywhere. They didn't take to the next logical step of sealing the breech and 209 primers. I still believe they would be a force today had they evolved.

Nice find though. I would convert it to 209 and hunt with it. Stay away from heavy loads, as that cupped shoulder plate and total lack of recoil pad will not be fun. Start @ 70 grains powder and a 240 grain sabotted bullet and go up from there.

Any thoughts on a scope?

Very nice rifle looked for an officers model but I've never even seen one except pics. I did buy a plain jane model blued and wood it has been just excellent accurate and great to carry .
Found a 44cal. Hornady 300 gr XTP, two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets and a RWS no.1075 cap (no.11 caps fall off) to be the load of choice for me not much kick and never had a ftf that wasn't my fault once I started using the RWS caps.
My dad liked mine so much he had me find one for him same basic 77/50 as mine he uses the same load except for 240gr XTP's just to be different his is just as accurate as mine they don't seem to be a bullet fussy gun.
Have been using my 77/50 for about 12 years give or take, dad 3 or 4 .
Was lucky enough a couple years ago to pick up another one a little different stainless with a grey laminate stock have only shot it one day a few times as mister graceful here snapped the ramrod. Now that I'm not working out of province I plan on getting it all ready for next hunting season .
The only flaw thats not really a pain but just time consuming is cleaning them and I believe the cause of there demise .
Once again nice find enjoy and if the cleaning is too much for you keep me in mind.
Later
Jack
