So here is my crazy idea, I have an old tang saftey ruger 77. The rifle shoots about moa with factory federal ammo. I tried my hand at refinishing this rifle as it was beat up the stock turned out ok but I have discovered that cold blueing sucks, it looks nice but it always rusts. So I was thinking about taking it in and having a really good barrel put on it, and cerakoted. My question is has anyone here done it before, I dont really know what the inhearant accuracy of a ruger action is. Is there anything else that would need done to the action if I had a custom barrel installed? Do they require blue printing or lapping?

Why change out the barrel if it shoots MOA with factory ammo?...having it beadblasted and properly reblued would be the least expensive way ro refinish it,..or have it Ceracoated and drop it into a new stock.
There's no "inherent accuracy" or lack of same in a Ruger action...most accuracy is in the barrel and the load......1 MOA with factory ammo is pretty good.

They bore is a bit pitted the guy i bought it off of had it for about 20 years and I dont think keeping his gun super clean was a priority it was just a tool. I kind of just want an excuse to build a semi custom and it is the only rifle I have that I want to mess with at this point.

Rick actually has one of my rem 700s right now I talked to him earlier today about doing my ruger I think I might get him to screw on one of those mcgowann barrels
