Ruger 77 in 357. What's your thoughts?

As someone who owns a 77/44, I 100% agree.
I love my 77/357. I did pick it up about 4 years ago before the spike in prices. Mine shoots very well with full loads. Both 158 and 180 grain Bullets in front of Lil Gun or H110. Honestly shoots most everything into 1-2 inch groups. With tailored loads it’s just over an inch. Really doesn’t matter as its not a long range cartridge, lol. Saskatchewan changed the regulation a few years back and outlawed the 357 Mag, 45 Colt and other for big game hunting. The same year they allowed .22 Cal centerfires... go figure.
I’d look for a used one rather than paying new price. But real handy little thing at 5 pounds and change. The mags feed flawlessly both 357 and 38 SP for me. I pretty much just shoot max 357 loads though as they recoil like nothing anyway. The action is plenty strong, haha.

My first 77/44 was one of the original walnut/blued guns; split its stock very early on and had to wait months for Ruger to send a replacement. Then, sadly, it turned out to be a very poor shooter, 4-5MOA on a good day. Shame, because it was a beautiful little gun.
Avoided them like the plague for awhile, but eventually owned a couple more, both .44's and .357's, but these were stainless/synthetic. Not much to look at but terrific shooters all, easily capable of 1.5MOA with almost anything and true MOA with choice handloads (shot scoped). I've never seriously hunted with them but they are favourite around-the-house pest guns; never thought of using them to shoot trout like GMC403.
If I could get a walnut/blue one that shot like the SS guns I would be a happy camper.

If you’re serious, the 357 apparently fits the 77/44 stocks. You can buy walnut 77/44 stocks for about $200US. And of course you could have the metal chemically blackened or coated.
I like the stainless/plastic. It will never be a classic anyways so it may as well be practical.

One can dump big game sure enough with the .357 as it has taken the biggest critters in North America by folks using handguns at close ranges.
It's dang good for handgun metallic silhouette competition as well.
That said, ye gotta load up some 110 gr JHP's over 23 gr of H110 for 2400 fps. Damn fun on gopher exploding missions out to 100 yds or so.
Lol, I'm serious about wishing that I could find a walnut/blued one like my original, except one that shoots well. I'm also serious about not being the kind of person who buys a $1000 gun, and then spends $500 on it only to wind up with...a $1000 gun that doesn't shoot any better than it did when I started but which I am now into for $1500. I enjoy things more when I don't think that I overpaid.
I know the two stocks are interchangeable, but I've never seen walnut stocks for sale, only laminate. Where did you see them, Boyd's? Their standard grade of walnut simply doesn't look good enough for me to consider it a huge upgrade. One of the things that turned me sour on that first one was the fact that the original stock was an eye-popping piece of figured walnut, but after it split the replacement that Ruger provided (eventually...) looked like it came off of an H&R.
Also just can't warm up to stainless/walnut together, and again, I have no interest in shipping my gun off somewhere to have it "mock-blued".

Likewise. A realistic price should be around $700 tops in my book. Me last one was a tad north of that. Nice shooter though.

I was interested in one at the start of the year. Someone offered me one for $875 in Jan. It seemed like they were discontinued (?) and were not available new. However now there is one with a threaded barrel (like someone posted).

Ive been contemplating one in 44mag, but i read they are lightweight... yet i just have hard time believen it from a ruger... How do they weigh compared to a scoped Ruger 1?
i dont think the 357 is wise choice for Sambar deer, so i would be lookin at the 44 mag for sure.

Steep for Rugers bnib these days, $1600 for blued synthetic 44, $1800 for walnut blued, stainless 1900, $2100 for laminates..2200 for gunsite scouts?! 2300 gun site walnut..
