Ruger 96/22

I'm looking at rebarrelling my Ruger 96/22 to a heavy barrel. From what I've found on various parts of the internet, it seems like I can use any 10/22 barrel. I can then either mill in a slot for the second extractor or use the Volquartsen exact edge extractor and remove the second extractor entirely. Has anyone on this forum done something like this before?

Original barrel shot-out or damaged? Just curious. Never really hear of anyone altering these due to how relatively uncommon they are.

You can if it's 18" or longer after cutting it back........

How long is the factory barrel on your 96/22 now?
