I have a ruger 96 and personally think the stock is hideous. I’m looking to replace it with a better option. I have seen online some guys have used Boyd’s rimfire hunter 10/22 stock with a bit of wood work to make it fit. Has anyone had any experience with this? Has anyone found any other stock options for their 96?

Thanks

Old thread, sorry for bringing it up. I used a 10/22 magnum stock from Boyds, it takes very little work. I put a GM bull barrel on it when I did it, didn't do any bedding and it shoots absolutely amazing. I want to bed it, but I'm afraid I might make it worse. I'll post a pic later.

IMG_20220107_694.jpg I inletted for the action and had to sand a v groove for the lever. It is much nicer than the original stock. They were a nice rifle but came with ugly wood.

Beautiful rifle! Definitely one of a kind, thanks for sharing.
A Ruger 96 has always been an itch I'd like to someday scratch.

Thanks, these days it's a rifle that commands high dollars. I bought mine many years ago for a decent price. I have the 96, 77 bolt and 10/22's, all utililizing the same mags. Easy to switch from one to the other without looking for different mags. Like all levers, it will shoot as fast as you can cycle it.
