Ruger aftermarket 10/22 drop in Ruger trigger.

The awkward wording in the title in intentional, a comment on the fact that Ruger is taking charge of the 10/22 lego upgrade market.

Anyway a search only brings up the fact that Irunguns has these on sale but what I want to know is if anyone as a review of the BX trigger assemblies Ruger is selling? I can't say my 35 year old 10/22 can't stand some improvement....
 
Lots of threads on his subject. The box trigger is a good upgrade for the cost. Much better trigger than stock, and half the price of the fancy stuff.
 
For the less than the price of the new ruger bx trigger, I shopped around and was able to piece together (what I think) is a way better feeling trigger (and even added an extractor). I picked up a volquartsen hammer/sear kit (with springs) and added a volquartsen extractor. I then picked up a shim kit online all for under $100 Canadian. We went shooting a few weeks back and a friend had just picked up the new ruger bx trigger from irunguns, paid $80 USD plus shipping etc, all said and done was well over $130 Canadian. The new ruger trigger broke nicely and performed but no where near as nice as the volquartsen hammer/sear/spring + extractor and shimmed up trigger.

If you don't mind searching and feel confident breaking down a 10/22 trigger.. id piece together a trigger kit versus the new ruger one. Just my .02 though.
 
I got my 10/22 trigger back from Brimstone Gunsmiths today. I sent it away June 28th and got their top Tier 1 trigger job, which features all new Rimfire Technologies parts and extra effort in fitting and polishing for the cleanest possible break possible, with ZERO creep. # Haven't shot it yet, but WOOOOOOW....I can't imagine how ANY aftermarket trigger could be better than this!! David's note said that it came out with a consistent and clean 2 pound trigger pull weight.

I see no reason to go with the Ruger BX trigger, or paying more than double (maybe triple) for a high end aftermarket trigger. If you can afford to do without your trigger for about 3-4 weeks, a Brimstone trigger job is by far the best deal around.

OK, I don't feel the need for a $300 trigger, nor do I want to spend a lot of time otherwise silkpursing my 10/22, nor do I have the necessary skills in the first place, so I do think the Ruger drop-in is for me. Thanks all.

Now what I really want is a lightweight titanium firing pin. I can just feel the inertia in the one I have.

That isn't entirely true. I've made quite a few receivers out of titanium, and it is far from soft. The 6AL4V spec that I used has the same tensile strength and Rockwell hardness as the 4140 and 416 materials we use. Commercially pure, or Grade 2 titanium is quite soft. I'm not sure what the firing pins are made out of, I'd hope they are 6AL4V.
 
i have seen a few which sacrifice hardness for weight. generally you would want the alloys which would maintain hardness over pure titanium. however, given the volume of material we are speaking about there will be very little weight difference between hardened steel and harder titanium alloys. and given that the steel will be harder it would be hard to justify the softer metal for a 1-2g weight savings. on something such as a full receiver with a lot of material you will certainly notice the weight savings.
 
honestly the difference isnt something you would notice. just go with a CnC milled hardened firing pin like you would get from VQ, dlask, kidd etc. it really is only a difference of 1-2g.
 
OK I have installed and tried the new Ruger trigger. It's good, but not absolutely a $100 advance over the old one, which I after all did have something like 40 years of experience with. Still, I need all the help I can get and I now have a major backup part represented by the old assembly.

Because I've been running around more than usual, never did find the 8 page review on rimfire central that was mentioned earlier, so if anyone has stored the link please share it. Otherwise, I'll have to dig it out later.
