Just purchased a spare magazine for a Ruger American short action.
Looking at the original and comparing it with the spare I see that the follower is different.
The original has a metal blade follower and the new spare has a plastic follower.
Has anyone noticed this or has anyone had issues with either one of the magazines.
I have tried 4 blank rounds through both and they feed the same with no issues.
Just not sure of the plastic follower.

Picked up a RA compact recently and was thinking of getting a spare mag I didn't realise they had a plastic.. OK polymer follower. But I gotta say the steel follower in the stock mag is a bit like putting lip stick on a pig the whole affair is polymer and kind of chinzy feeling but its to be expected all things considered. Seems to work OK though. I don't think a polymer follower would be much of a handicap if at all. Where did you find yours 257?

Thanks for the input Salty,
Dropped into at our local Canadian Tire and there they were, Hanging on the wall in the locked up gun rack.
Not sure that the spare has a polymer follower or not, what I do know the they are completely different even the spring system is not the same as the steel follower unit.
It remains to be seen how long it will last.
