Just purchased my first hunting rifle. I've had my fair share of ar15's, handguns, and short barrelled shotguns but this hunting rifle thing is all new to me. I decided to pick up a Ruger American in .308 and I mounted a vortex crossfire II 4-12x40 scope and I have to say I am extremely happy. This rifle is clean and smooth, the action is fantastic. Trigger pull is a knock off of the accutrigger but I'm not complaining. The same day I purchased the rifle I mounted the scope, did a ghetto bore sighting job and out hunting I went. When I got out to my hunting area I decided to hunt in I took a few shots at a rock at about 100 meters to fine tune the rifle. When I was satisfied with how my gun was shooting I took off to a near by field with a friend and we came accross a black bear about 800 meters across the field. So after 650 yards of sneaking accross the field and 20 minutes waiting for the perfect shot I placed a 168 grain Amax into the bears neck and out his right lung. The rifle performed outstanding. I couldn't be happier. If you're thinking of picking up a $450 hunting rifle I would highly recommend this gun. Light, accurate, ###y, and great feel to it.

I know the bear looks a bit brown but I can assure you it's a black bear.
