Ruger American, is it that bad?

Kinda pissed right , got a call from Latulippe, they can't find the rifle in their inventory. Their system says 2, nowhere to be found. They are waiting for 5 more but don't have a eta. My muzzlebreak from Wolverine and cheekrest from Coretac Solution are already on their way. F#CK!

I own a Ruger American Ranch, and A friend of mien picked up a savage axis.

The stocks were basically the same, and I assume the 783 synthetic would be comparable.

Neither of use like the bolt/action on the savage, and we both like the American for feel. I did not have any complaints about the machining, but I was already prepped to not expect much.

The budget rifles are a nice start for low funds, or if you want something to tinker with and customize. If you want to purchase and go, also give the Brownings a try. I had an ABolt3 in .243 and it was a really nice rifle right off the shelf.

I would not buy a Remington myself, but that is not based on anything other than personal taste, just don't care for them, kind of like buying a Ford.

I couldn't hep it and done ordered up a 783 synthetic heavy barrel in .308 from Reliable to keep me walnut stocked version company. This should be a fun one to
experiment with. I'll get a walnut 783 in 6.5 CM when they are available here.;)

Nice!

On my side I got the refund from Latulippe, called Gravel agency, they confirmed that the 223 version was not in Canada yet, mid-july for the first batch. Just hanged up with Aldo at Dante Sport(sponsor) to make a deposit(25% of 477$). Might have it in 3 weeks(crossing fingers).

Cool. I hope the trade spat with the US don't get too stupid. I see a bunch of delays & price hikes on goodies coming our way if the issue ain't settled soon.
I got my one today in .308 and I'm liking it a bunch. Gonna have fun with the bugger fer sure. Nice handling rifle fer me.;)

Fresh outta da box.

Sweet! If you have a Harris bipod can you confirm that they attach good on that hole of plastic. I will install a metal sling swivel stud before winter, just don't want break it in cold weather.

Well my questions about the Ruger American took me to the Remington 783 .223 HB FDE, thanks to Jerry and JJ.

Bought the rifle from Dante Sports in Montreal.

Here is the first range experience with it.

Stock is darker than what it is looking on Remington website. About same as Krylon kakhi camouflage spray paint. I like it.

Got the rifle friday, cleaned it and to the range on sunday. It went fine! I have used 3 brands of 55gr. ammo, at 100 yards only. Barnaul sucked(used some left overs from the ar15 days to see if I was on paper) with 2.5" at 100 yards. American eagle and Hornady steel match both gave under an inch. AE red box just a hair under an inch for 2 groupings and the 2 others were between 1 and 1.5 inches. Hornady was the best with 3 half inch groupings out of 4, had a flyer too. 41°c heat index, no wind on a cheap caldwell bipod ( my brother forgot to bring me back my Harris, got it once the day was over) and no rear stock support. I am happy with this rifle. Action cycle good, mags are nice. Really it gave me result that I was hoping for. Rifle is on the heavy side, great for bench. If shooting standing up i would have to remove bipod and it would help to get a compact light scope. The only problem I encountered is 1 cartridge Hornady steel match, I had to hit it twice for it to go bang. On first hit, the primer had been deeply hit and nothing happened. Every other shot went good. Next visit I will shoot it at 200 yards(max at my range).'

Will have to sand the stock a little bit, there seem to have a place where the barrel touch the stock, just a little.

I added Remington stock extender, gives me 1" more on LOP. Millet rings( one with rail). Scope is Mueller 8-32x44 Target. Mounted Meopta Mrad 3moa red dot for fun and I thinks I will keep it on, kinda like it. Installed Tac Pro cheek rest. Barrel is threaded, so I had to put something on it haha. Miwest Industries 3 chambers muzzle brake for ARs.

I give it an "A" for a 500$ rifle you can't go wrong. My past experiences with .223 rifles are Savage Axis 1st gen, Savage 12 LRPV and Stag Arms AR15.

Have a good day!

That should be a fine setup for yer purposes. My .308 783 HB had the same molded in pinch point midway up the the fore end as well. I've bedded the action on my one with JB Weld and mounted a 2-7x32 Bushnell Elite glass on 'er seeing as this rifle will be used mostly for shootin' inside of 200 yds.

As fer the Ruger American, I'm not tickled by the magazine setup, tang safety and molded in trigger guard. A floating head bolt wouldn't hurt either, but at least they
wisely went with the Brewer system of barrel fixing. The Ruger looks nice enough fer a working rifle and is of light enough weight to satisfy folks that do long treks
afield. I've yet had no 1st hand experience with the Ruger units, but wouldn't mind playin' with one.
