Ruger American Ranch 762x39 Quality Control

Ah man....sorry to hear it. All of the above blows. "Interesting times" eh? Are the same border restrictions still in place?

Good luck finding that spread of land/house.

How do you like the Rimfire, or at least impressions on it so far?

I hear you. Couldn't win a raffle or lottery if there was only one ticket and I bought it. The one change on the rifles QC wise that I'm happy about is it seems that they now come with a black ejector instead of the older silver one that people reported problems with, but have had no issues here yet.

The 7.62x39 bolt is really starting to wear in and slick up nicely. Going to a 300 BLK soon since its a lot easier to reload for and there are a plethora of 30 cal bullets out there. Give up the ability to shoot cheap steel case though!
Thanks!

Yes, the border restrictions are still in place, but Congress (both the House and Senate) have recently voted to end the national emergency.

Biden has said that he won't try to block it.

I've already crossed 4 or 5 times since late last year. Nobody has asked me my vaxx status, so I've sailed right through.

I haven't been able to start the immigration process, though, since I'm a Plague Rat.

That may change soon. I hope.

House prices are still crazy, though.

As for my Ruger rimfire, I like it and all of the others I have!:d

It takes 10/22 mags, has a threaded muzzle and comes with a Picatinny rail. What's not to like?

If it's accurate, rugged, and reliable...then I'm happy.

I'm a southpaw, but I mostly shoot from a bench anyways. So it isn't a real handicap for me.

I have a lot of catching up to do with all of them.

Hence why I want my own private range so I can plink away with all my toys and not bother, or be bothered by anyone.

BTW, I had my RAR out of the case and the stock is a little close on the left side of the barrel.

It looks about the same as yours and a bit better than IPSCshooters' RAR.

It doesn't bother me and I wouldn't even think about touching it until I've shot it first.

Here are mine and yes the barrel is very close/touching the stock, it really depends on the angle you hold it, the 762x39 one is more centered that the .556.

Do I give a $hit......NO, I actually never even noticed till this thread popped up, and they shoot almost as good as my Tikka T3X with junk bulk .223 55 gr remington, and American eagle 124g fmj x39.

I still wouldn't hesitate to buy these rifles at even 800$ a pop

Nice duo, IPSCshooters!

If you really want a 7.62x39 bolt gun try to buy a CZ 527 used. Will serve you much better.

I bought a 527 with a synthetic stock last year and got the same problem with mine as the OP.

I put a couple small wooden wedges between the forend tip and the bbl to straighten the forend to the bbl and then lightly used a paint stripper heat gun to heat the forend in front of the action. I just used enough heat to get it hot to touch and left the wedges in while it cooled. It worked.

Had the same happen with CZ and Howa. Wood and not synethetic tho.

Nice fix, SuperCub. Thanks for exlaining it.

Find a pipe that is 1/8 of an inch wider than your barrel - wrap it in baking paper use a heat gun (on low) once it's warm enough you will apply pressure to form the stock around the pipe then once you have it where you want it - cold water will freeze it - re-install the barreled action and you should have it even on both sides - as for the bolt no sure

Stupid question here lads but...I've never shot corrosive through a bolt gun like the Rugers, always the steel case non corrosive like Barnaul, red box Norinco etc.

A military rifle like a Mauser is much easier to deal with. Unscrew bolt, spray insides with ballistol, wipe, reinstall.

With the Ruger American or other rifles do you actually have to tear the bolt down and clean the internals every time you shoot corrosive, or are they cool?

It's possible for some corrosive salts to get into the area around the firing pin, I've always used hot water from a kettle to flush out areas I think have been exposed to salts and then Ill use a hot air gun sometimes on a bolt and compressed air to dry things out, spray in some gun oil and flush blow it around with some compressed air to remove excess amounts and get it in to the nooks and crannies inside.

A full teardown of the bolt from time to time check and make sure there is no corrosion inside is a good idea to confirm the effectiveness of your normal cleaning routine.

Thanks Can-Down! I was wondering if just spraying Ballistol on the bolt face and wiping the bolt down with it was enough. I like your air gun idea.

I posted some pics on post #31 of crappy rifling in my x39 and one pic of 180yd shots. After all this b-n about the rifle, here's some 100-yd shots. Just a few weeks after I bought it. And I'm just an 'average shooter' - it works for me. These were with 3-9x40 duplex scope and Barnaul FMJ.

Late to the party - bought this in the spring at Cabelas who price matched a site sponsors price saving me $180 off the retail price (with my MIL fuming in one of the chairs in the front lobby snarling at my wife "how long does he need in this store anyways?").

Mounted a 2x7 Bushnell of my fathers on it and did some quick tests getting it sighted in with Norinco non corrosive ammo this summer. Last week had a chance to try it with some of my older handloads. Four of the 5 shots touching at 100 yards, went to load more and I am going to have to source more of the Winchester 123gr power points as I only have 18 left! I am not a target shooter at the best of times, but I was very happy when I saw this!

Very happy with it, no issues with the barrel channel touching, love the light weight and short barrel. Hoping to use on a deer this fall.

I'm a sucker for punishment I think...
I had 2 Americans in 308 when they were $400 and first came out. First one was so ####ty machined i could hardly believe it passed QC, had the zipper bolt, the barrel exterior looked like a screw, there was rough machine lines the entire length, if you wiped it with a rag it would tear the rag it was that bad. Sent it back for another one, it was also pretty bad, zipper bolt, tool marks on the barrel but not as bad to rip rags. Took it out, it shot like ####...sold it the next day.
Picked one of these 16" 243's up as a loaner for buddies kids to hunt with...5.5lbs before scope, thankfully it's better made a bit. No zipper bolt, pretty smooth machine work, stocks are stiffer in the forend but still not centered with the action due to the lame ass bedding design, no more ####ty rotary mags, regular double stack mags now but they need work, no bevel on the lip so rounds just jam into the flat face, easy fix filing a bevel there, mag spring is weak as ####, tweaked with a few strategic bends, works fine now. Trigger is good, ceracote is thin...
Will see how it shoots this weekend hopefully, already know it has a sloppy chamber and short throat, it swallows my 2 other neck sized 243 cartridges with no resistance at all, but the 100gr loaded to SAAMI max jams in the lands...

whats hilarious is that the zipper bolt could be fixed by changing their lathe program from F.012 to F0.006 and add about 13 seconds to their cycle time. Surely they can eat that cost on a now $800 rifle....Remember, companies keep cheap things bad on purpose to justify the existence of such higher cost tiers.
