Ruger American Ranch barrel swap?

Pull the ejector out and lengthen the back of the pin slot to let the ejector stand out further to fix the ejection problem stemming from the short case

I have tried that, also i have some ball bearings that fit the extractor hole better than standard savage balls that really help the extractor preform way more consistent. In my opinion the issue is that the actual case rotation happens before it clears the ejection port and it falls out of the bolt face instead. Now if I cycle the bolt quickly ejection is fairly reliable. The action is sized for .308, it would work fine in my opinion if the bolt lug channel was of slightly smaller diameter, (scaled for the. 223) right now I have no ejector in, and just manually pick out the rounds off the bolt face.... as a reloder(aka brass chasers) its actually not that crazy

I would hope the Howa mini actions are probably more suitable for such a conversion, and maybe these ruger ranch rifles handle the small cases more reliability.

Starting to like the American Ranch in 7.62x39mm so much I'm not sure I'll still bother. But I appreciate all the info on rebarreling these rifles.

Just rebarreled another American with a new Tikka 6.5 Creed take off barrel, was able to reuse the factory barrel nut. Machined 63 thou off the back of the nut and tourqed everything to 75 foot pounds. There wasn’t any glue on the barrel nut or threads from the factory assembly job.
