Hopefully Ruger will bring the bugger out in .458 SOCOM which is the much better chambering. Ruger should make the beasties up in SR versions as well.
Doesn't excite me either....... but I got one through prophet river recently for a friend who wanted an aught six and the price was great......
Other than the fact that the bolt made that "trademark zipper sound", fit and finish was decent, certainly nothing that should hamper shooting a good group. The stock was clear of barrel where it needs to be, the included bases seemed solid... and it shouldered to me like any of my other rugers (m77) do....... built to the same proportions......
He is just starting out and on a budget, so at $450 or so all in (rifle, based and set of rings I donated), I think he did well........ he (I) threw a Nikon prostaff 5 on it and I think he has a serviceable package going.........
Does it inspire me to buy one?...... not anytime soon......... but for under $750 all in for rifle and mounted scope, I think he did well.....

I've always gone that route with my .458's. Only bugaboo has been keeping the weight down a bit fer more easy carry on a long stalk.
