totally forgot to make the video lol...

Anyhow if they tell you your gun might not be compatible because of the mag release....

this is what they are talking about. You can remove the offending "coverage" I personally left it, i have no problem using the mag release and its damn near impossible to accidently drop a mag by pushing the button on your gear.

Here’s the PTG magwell, inletted into a donor rotary mag stock. Finally feeds well

Neither the stock ar, or Ruger aics conversion would feed without mangling the bullet892157EA-9993-4A80-8DBB-0E2D7DA7608E.jpg

The rotary stock is different than the ar stocks. It doesn’t have the same modular magwell.

Does anyone who converted from rotary to AR or min-14 want to sell me their rotary magwell they took off?
I am about to place a WTB ad in the parts and accessories sub-forum but it made sense to ask here first.
Picture below is for reference to the part I need, color not important.

There are versions of the predator and Ranch that use rotary magazines in the removable rotary magwell. With the Ranch it was some of the first models after the 2018 changes of bolt and receiver.

Four factory options of removable/interchangeable magwells exist. They are the proprietary Ruger rotary, Mini-14/30, AI and STANAG...some are just more common than others and they all interchange with the modular stock.
Top photo shows rotary only stock in FDE with the green one below it being modular to accept all removable magwell styles.

Mine has a modular magwell and rotary 4rd mag. It allegedly can't accept aics mags because my bolt isn't notched - that's at least what Ruger says.

hi! i just bought the 7.62x39 ranch. first thing i wanted to do was to change over to the AR magwell. i cannot find it anywhere in Cda now. Gravel says they'll only do warranty parts now. Western says that Ruger's not sending to Cda now. Anyone have a spare assembly they want to part with or a vendor in Cda who has it or will 3rd party make it? thx!

I buy Ruger parts from Gravel quite often, up to about three weeks ago and have never had a problem...to whom did you speak to that shut you down? You will need to provide them with your Serial number. Try them again.

hi! they didn't leave a name. just said they can only order warranty parts, for now, and to check back in April to see if the situation's changed.thx!

I too just picked up a Ranch in 7.62 x 39.

Also looking for the mag well conversion for my AR mags..
Following this thread:cool:

So, if I'm reading this right, I can get an AICS compatible magwell for an American Ranch in 5.56? That would be sweet as I'd love to try some heavier bullets. Part numbers are the same between the 7.62x39 and 5.56 models?

I did the conversion you speak of using two different stocks and could not get 223 AICS pattern mags of any brand whether steel or polymer to feed...rounds sat way to low under the feed ramp. I even tried magpuls offering they made specifically for their american stock. No dice.

Has anyone done an AK/type 81 mag conversion for the 7.62x39 American ranch? I’ve got my 223 ar mag well ranch set up as a companion rifle for my type 97 and I kinda want to get a type 81 and setup the ranch for interchangeable mags, anyone thought of this?

You can indeed. I lucked out; when I saw an AICS .223 magwell for the American Ranch on the EE, I grabbed it. It dropped right in and fed perfectly from the two types of AICS-pattern mags I had on hand for another rifle. I think they are MDT and Magpul, not sure and can't check right now. I didn't find out until later that not all American Ranch rifles would work with the new magwell, or that a bunch of folks seem to be having issues with the feeding. Just dumb luck. Like many bolt rifles, it requires one to work the bolt smartly and vigorously; if you try to sneak a round quietly and slowly into the chamber, you will likely not succeed...

I also have one in 7.62Russian and it feeds beautifully from the numerous Mini30 mags I have left over from a previous life. :) I have read people complaining about the difficult of inserting these mags; yeah, it's tricky, takes at least 10 or 15 seconds to master the technique. I no longer own a Mini14 or any mags for that model, but I seem to recall that Mini14 mags were a little narrower than those for the Mini30. I kinda sorta think they won't fit and feed in the same magwell; not sure about this, but something to keep in mind.

I don't have the rifle, but I bought a mini magwell from the ee just to see if mini14 magazines will seat.
They seem to fit fine, just odd they insert straight up vs the rock & lock of the mini14 rifle.
But as I said I do not have the rifle, just the magwell, so I do not know if it'll feed from the magazine.

I finally got an 223 American, and I have the mini14/30 magwell installed in a previously ar magwell, looks like it'll feed. Haven't tried live rounds yet.

It makes no financial sense to do this unless you have a bunch of mini14 magazines laying around.

So I have a Ruger American Ranch in 223. It came with the AR style pinned mag. Would like to convert it to a Ruger Flush mag. Contacted Gravel with the serial number and what I would like and they seem to have no idea. Has an anyone done this conversion and if so do you have a part number or something for the max well I need?
Thanks
