After 4 decades of gun ownership, I just bought my first bolt action rifle. The Ruger American Ranch in .223. This was literally the day before numb nuts decided to ban everything. Anyway, I need to get a scope, rings etc and would love to hear your impressions and recommendations to set this bad boy up and of course check out some pics for inspiration. Thanks!

Ranch 300blk , I had this set up so I could easily take off my ranch and put on my AR . And a seeall sight for plinking at 100yrd . switching to a falcon 1.5-5x30 as soon I order some medium hgt rings .

Sweet! Will have mine tomorrow. Very impressed with the service from IRG. Any more pics / recommendations? I know lots of nutz have them on order so what's the plan to kit it out? hickok45 is a fan too.

I have one coming. I have a plan but want some feedback from the group. Would the Magpul Hunter American short action stock work with the soon to be released PMAG 10 5.56 AC – AICS mags? If so, that would be a neat set up. Especially if the LAR-15 mags are banned down the road.

Thoughts?

For those who are still looking for this rifle, I just got notification that this is back in stock at Al Flaherty. Website shows 15 in stock as I am posting this.

I got mine at IRG.ca (they are sold out now and you will have to import) which has it for a little cheaper but this is still a decent price and you don't have to wait. Al Flaherty has free shipping where IRG does not.

I've purchase other firearms at Al Flaherty (both in-store and online) and the experience was always positive.

I got mine at IRG as well but being in Toronto, always check with Flaherty's first. Great store and top notch service.

Thanks IRG!

Great Rifle!

Where did you get the Magazine version of this rifle. The #26968 Model or the #06968....? I have seen the #06968 in stock in Canada, but not the #26968.

I want the magazine version, not sure if they are the same, can you use a magazine in the #06968? Does anyone know who has the #26968 in stock in Canada....Thanks.

I want something to shoot on private property, but I am leaning to the 300BLK over the 5.56. I am looking forward to reloading the 300BLK.....Thanks.

Does anyone know who has the #26968 in stock in Canada....Thanks.

556 version

Shield 4 moa red dot sight. I really like this setup, I've always been an iron sights fan and this may have killed them for me. I had it further forward for some reason as pictured, I think I saw this in a eurotrash hunting mag or something. I moved it to the back and it works much better, just like a reciever sight.

I ordered a 2 moa dot from a sight sponsor I have boycotted for years because of their terrible service and constant #### ups. I was told by them that they couldn't sell me the 2 moa dot because it was "missing its bottom". I had ordered a mount to go with it, upon receiving the one with a "bottom" I realized that they connect directly to the mount. Not even worth trying to return it and get the 2 moa one from my past experience lmao.

I really like this rifle, but not a fan of the magazine and how its almost impossible to single feed rounds. Don't want to sacrifice its carrying profile with the ar mag, but honestly it's a range toy where I live as I don't do any predator hunting.

Cabela's have them 10% off, picked up a .308 for $720 + TX got the last one at Edm S I was told, but they show online stock, also in .450

I got hit hard with Justins gun ban and I have a number of AR magazines so figured I would resupply my stock of non banned guns. I ordered a couple of boltys. Gave them a paint job and grabbed a spare scope.

Going to zero and see how they shoot in the next couple of days.

Picked one up from Dante in 5.56 and took it out to the range for the first time today. The C-Products 5/10 mag it comes with didn't work that great for me, but Cross mags function flawlessly. No weird slop or hangups.

Took them to the range yesterday, along with some Federal bulk box .55gr .223.

Bore sighted them and then shot some paper. First actual group I shot was 5 rounds that looked like 3, which I thought was pretty good for this ammunition, which is pretty inconsistent with powder charges. ES of 63 fps between 7 shots does not inspire confidence! Twisted some dials, took a few more shots and I was zeroed in

Next rifle was a bit weird, was sort of spraying bullets like a drunk guy relieving himself at the company picnic. Shot 10 rounds with no real consistency. I was like WTF? Then I noticed that the muzzle cap was only half installed and loose. Maybe this is the problem? I screwed it on tight and tried another 10 rounds. They pretty much punched out the center of the target.

Was that the problem? Seems to be, although it is such a minor thing I suppose it could have effected the barrel harmonics. Or it could just be that the first ten rounds were so inconsistent they threw them around and then I lucked out with the next batch. Anyways, I don't care that much as these are not going to be "group shooting" rifles, just steel plate smackers.

The bolt operation is a bit lousy. Could be due to the use of the AR magazines, or maybe it just needs to get worn in by a few hundred bolt manipulations. I like the magazine release quite a bit. Many bolt action magazine releases suck, but this is a simple AR style button.

The trigger is easy to adjust and I dialed it down to about 3.5 lbs according to my RCBS fish scale trigger pull gauge.

Mine wont shoot that ammo for ####e... and it's loud, poppy and obnoxious...

Put some 75's down the tube, and it's a whole different gun...
