Hi all

I have a RAR 308 which works great, smooth and accurate.

Only problem I have been having is a bit of rust from all the rain on west coast of canada.

I have gun smith who can bead blast the RAR put a parkerise coating and then baked on gun kote other option is to get rar in stainless when comes to canada

Cost will be similar but will have to hope new gun performs as well and don't really like the stainless look.

Anyone have experience with gun kote when compared with stainless in wet weather?

Thanks

Del

guncote or cerakote are more rust proof than ss. stainless can still rust. ultimate is coated ss as the bore handles wet weather better. if your using the smith i think your using it will take months or more to have it done.

There is also Arma-Coat (dealer on this forum) that does amazing work, has a good turn around time and most importantly, sells a really great product. If you want a weatherproof rifle, I'd have it coated by them and then use something along the lines of Dyna bore coat to make sure your bore won't rust. Your rifle should then be damn near indestructible.

I am leaning toward a stainless in 7m-08 or .308 for a nice all weather carry rifle and a maybe a compact .223 for a mid range coyote rifle. I had my American .243 out to the range yesterday while trying a new muzzle loader. It always impresses me how accurate it is for the price point.

If you don't like the look of stainless then get a stainless RAR coated...then your bore and any tiny areas they miss will have better protection from rust.
I might be doing that with the stainless RAR that I'll be getting him...
