So I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one of these...

Things I like about it are:

-Takes flush fitting 10rd mags that I already have a few of.
- Also takes a wide variety of aftermarket mags.
- Synthetic stock
- Lightweight
- Affordable

The only thing I can't decide is whether I want the compact or full length version. I'll take the compact version all day for practical reasons, but wonder if the 22" bbl would provide noticeably better accuracy. I know this tifle isn't supposed to be a tack driver, and I don't expect it to be, but if accuracy is that much better with the long bbl, I may go that route instead.

Anyone care to share their experiences with this rifle?

Also, are there any other rifles a guy should be looking at? Must be lightweight, around the same price, and synthetic stock is a deal breaker for this one.

I have the compact. It's excellent! Very happy with the accuracy out to 80 yards as well (around .5"). I can confidently take any small game out to 85 yards. At 100, I get around 1-1.5" groups. Don't shoot it out that far too much and haven't shot paper that far so 1.5" max is just a conservative guess.

I really doubt the longer barrel will give you better accuracy. Just some better velocity. Which, for a rimfire, will be moot. Get the compact if you want a lighter more manouverable rifle. The extra barrel length will not be noticeable.

Then only other rifle of look at for quality, is the cz. But there are expensive...and have no flush mags...and shoot just as well...just get the Ruger. Best deal

Btw my rifle loves the CCI standard velocity. Get them at Crappy tire

Thanks!

Have you noticed your free-float batrel touching the forend at all? Been reading that it was quite common with the RA rifles for a while. Ruger may have corrected it by now, but just curious if you've encountered this issue. I don't mind hogging out the channel if I have to, but just wondering.

Saw this in the bass pro flyer a month or so ago for $319. Even at the sale price, compared to a Savage Mk II, FVSR say for the same price, it's way over priced. I fired my buddies at the range and it just reinforced my initial thoughts at the store. Feels "cheap" in the hands, not a smooth action, and makes that hollow clunking noise when you work the action like they skimped out of heavier materials or stock thickness of the walls.

But after all that's said any done, Ruger is a synonym for reliability. It should be a $300 rifle max MRSP. In my opinion.

I purchased the compact and found a full sized stock extension.
Great shooting rifle.
Not sure if it's light as mentioned.
Figured it was a hefty sort for the size.

I bought an American 18" non-compact last year from Prophet River. As far as a .22 bolt action goes, it is a quality rifle for the money.

OP,
I would recommend the 22" model if you plan on primarily using the iron sights. Otherwise the 18" is great for its compact OAL and it doesn't feel unbalanced. Accuracy wise I have no complaints, .5 to .75" at 50y is a fair expectation off the bench with most ammo I've tried.

i picked up one of the 22" ones.
my thinking is that with all the plastic and metal it could be my ruff use gun.
that way i can keep the pretty stocks on my CZ and Savage looking nice.
really like the gun, really like the price of it.
it was less than half of what i paid for my CZ and pretty much half of what i paid for my Savage and gets me pretty much the same accuracy, pretty much - not to be compared with 'the same'.
but easily minute of gopher (head) out to 50-70yards.

*edit - i have the 22" one and love the fiber optic sights!*
*also - since i have a dozen 10/22's its super nice it uses the same mags!*

I just went and grabbed a RAR Compact in 22LR. I won't be able to shoot it tonight, but I am happy with it so far. Bolt could use a bit of smoothing out, but that's not a big deal.

Now what base do I need to mount my scope?

Weaver #12 bases work for a 2 piece mount. That's what I use.

I ordered the stainless from P.R. Early July 6-9 weeks. Rumour was Canada was really low on the list to receive them. Some of the chains have their fall runs delivered no stainless in the batches

Good to know, thanks.
