Ruger American Rimfire

Pretty sure I paid 289 when they first came out

that would be pretty close to cost price im assuming, buddy of mine was working at a LGS when the first batch came in and i got mine for $315 (regular price was $360) and he told me that my price was pretty much lowest he could go and not loose money on it.

Got mine from IRG :), the dollar was on par back then and they weren't readily available in Canada yet :)

Found my receipt.

Has anyone taken the back part of the butt off and let a youth shoot it. I am thinking the compact and was and do not want to purchase two guns. I want to just get one for me and the kids. Feedback or photos are greatly appreciated.

I have not. But they are designed with the replaceable stock module for that very purpose, it allows you to adjust length of pull and comb height as desired. You would just need to buy the standard or compact rifle and then buy the additional stock modules that you require.

Got her out to the range today. Not going to win any competitions anytime soon but she's plenty accurate enough given the price. Not quite minute of angle with the ammo I had today but certainly minute of gopher. I fed her a diet of CCI Mini Mags, CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Blazer and Fiocchi Standard Velocity. It likes the Fiocchi and the Blazer the best out of what I had today. I forgot to bring my Federal bulk and CCI Green Tag with me. My only real complaint is the extractor is not that strong and a couple of times it failed to eject the empty brass. A firmer hand solved that one easily enough.

These were pretty typical 5 round groups at 50 yards:

Ruger American Rimfire 17 HMR accuracy

Just brought this guy home from Cabela's last week. Shoots great, bolt is a little rough compared to my Tikka, but only has 50 rds through and is smoothing out. Target at 40 yds, CCI 17gr vs Federal HP 31 and 38 g in my 10/22.

Have to say - very impressed with this rifle, and looking forward to trying it on some gophers and squirrels. Not an apple to apple comparison as Ruger has a Nikon Target 3-9 EFR scope on it vs a Vx-1 2-7 on the 10/22 and didn't bother to match magnifications. Still, the 17 HMR is definitely the more accurate between these too. Only thing I'd change is to buy it in the compact as I love the size of that 10/22 - but this will be a great practice rifle for hunting as it is a similar, weight, size and magnification as my Tikka 243. Also, as far as accuracy in the 10/22 will either have to try the Bx-22 trigger or go with the Kidd. And it definitely likes the 38g > 31g. Could see how it does with some Eley but since I want to use it for varmints, doesn't really matter.

Would be fun to have a Ruger in the 17 and 22lr or 22wmr to compare accuracy with, but overall very pleased and highly recommend it. Probably the most fun gun I have to shoot at the moment, at least until my MV gets here!
