I decided to buy one of these for a "beater'' hunting rifle and since there is few reviews of these as of yet, I thought I'd do one.

I went with it in .308 for a good "overall" cartridge.

Here she is NIB. Very patriotic.

Here she is just out of the box (still has oil on it). Feels nice in the hand, light and slim at the wrist. Plastic stock is a bit more pliable than the Weatherby synth stocks I am used to but overall, quality seems good for the price range. Shoulders well and pad seems up to the job. Ruger sure likes stickers all over their guns of late. At least they are removable and not stamped onto the barrel..

Close up of the engine room. I like the flat sides of the action and the recessed bolt release. Not a huge fan of the closed in port.

Accutrigger clone that Ruger calls the Marksman. Apparently adjustable but haven't tried yet. Feels nice and crisp with dry firing.

Rotary mag, interesting. I am a bit worried about the longevity of top loading through these but appear robust enough. The ammo in the mag has a OAL of 2.790''. Not a bunch of wiggle room for length. Mag drops freely into one hand.

Here's a pic of the spring loaded mag latch better than a plastic clip, IMO

Overall I am impressed with this budget rifle in it's fit, finish and overall quality. I will have a more definitive opinion after hitting the range with her in the next day or two.

Looks like a fine rifle chambered in my favorite .30 caliber. The texturing looks good too, I prefer it over checkering from an aesthetic standpoint. I'll be watching this thread for the range report.

sweet rifle ! i just can't wait to get mine . Where did you get yours and how much did you pay ? most store don't have them in stock yet or only have them 30-06 .

Nice Ruger gave you a place to start with the bases installed.
Saves one going out and searching for them.
Why would Ruger have the urge to stick an accutrigger on their rifles......?
Training wheels on a rifle.
Bah.
Curious to see how she does making holes on the paper.
What are you planning on using for ammo?

I have a whole pile of PMC 147gr but I will be getting some more different brands today.

American Rifle, they say?

The question might be, “Is this what America has come to?” And the answer to that unfortunately is, “Yes.” The name fits.

Observe the trash stock, made from recycled plastics that might have been recovered from a dumpster in a backstreet. I imagine that stock is either built by robots, themselves designed and constructed in Taiwan. Or possibly, it was pounded out of molds on a sweatshop floor by illegal immigrants recently arrived from Guatemala.

The metal is like that found in the construction of trash bins. No union hand ever touched it from start to finish. Who could imagine in years gone by that America would come to this?

The American economy is busted out by corporate fat cats who stripped the country bear, robbed company pension funds and outsourced whenever possible to the third world. What is left is an impoverished mass, waiting for the next blow from the Wall Street elite. Today, the corporate gang who brought the country to its knees continues on its path of greed and destruction. Their goal is to take the last scrap from the table, to take the last vestiges of dignity from the American worker. Yes, those citizens lucky enough to hold jobs might buy a rifle like the Ruger American, and so the name fits.

But jingoism aside, when I look at this rifle, I do not think of America. To me, that country will always be associated with John Wayne, freedom and the dignity that comes from self reliance and honest work. When I look at the latest Ruger offering, I am reminded of Germany, and one German word in particular. It is Shiza.

I love Ruger, but I agree!

People want cheap cheap, and they're getting ####. Because that's all you can make for dirt cheap.

Oh good. Derailment. Lovely..

I started this thread to show what I already stated was a low end rifle, because there are very few reveiws about them. Am I comparing it to my Sako, Weatherby mkV or the like? No.

Oh and the "never touched by a union hand" part was hilarious. :)

I love Ruger products for the most part, but that rifle looks like a Norinco product. I guess it makes sense to put out an inexpensive rifle to appeal to that segment of the market, but I doubt I would ever buy one. I wouldn't buy a Mossberg or a T3 either, though. :)

yep - a new rifle just became some imagined political statement for what is wrong in a country that is not ours.

I'll play --- what do you want for $425??? 22 lpi checkering on select french walnut and hand rubbed oiled finish with deep relief engraving?

I don't know why but on every forum poeple are #####ing out new budget rifle and how crappy they are without even trying them out .... lol It looks like they are mad because these cheap rifles are shooting just as great as 800$ ones ..... but for half the cost .

So why don't we un-derail this right now and get back to the new rifle?????

Congrats and get us a range report! :D

I'd love a beater .308 as well, but my preferance has always been quality used over cheap new. Still curious on how it performs.
