Ruger American unbox and range report.

have the 243 and it is less than 6.25 lbs.An awesome carrying rifle. It shoots as good as a rifle costing 2 or 3 times more.Felt recoil is minimal but it is just a .243.It has one of the nicer recoil pads i have used.I'd but another if and when they chamber it in .223.

They chamber the axis in 223, I have one

If I was looking for a beater .30 cal. rifle for $425, I would pick up 2,3 maybe 4 Lee Enfields, pick the best shooter and put away the rest or sell them to get back some of the money for ammo. I think you'ed be further ahead.

I doubt you'd ever find an enfield that would outshoot or even come close to these rifles as far as accuracy goes.I've had a few myself.

Given the fact that you have to buy bases for them and either mod the trigger or replace it,the axis would have to sell around the $250 mark for me to go that route.Who knows? If wholesale drops them below $250 after xmas,i just might grab a .223.

You do? Funny mine shoot fine with out any of that

Just an observation.
This Ruger is obviously aimed at a specific market, and looks like they have done well.

They are quick to make decisions regarding something they have a personal axe to grind with.

Better idea, let's wait until these have been in the field for a couple of years....then re-assess them.

I am a blued/wood lover, but still can see a place for these rifles which are less "aesthetic"

Would I buy one? Hard to say, but it is unwise to dogmatically say "never"

Funny - a young friend of mine bought a youth Axis 7-08 package deal and she shot her deer last year and this year, lent it to her little brother who shot his first deer (at about 350 yds first shot) this year. 3 deer with an unmodified, stiff trigger, fexible stock, $299 all in rifle.
Says something to me.
Number one is that the rifle must fit the user - the Axis is the only relatively available rifle in youth size for that price. Both these smaller individuals love it for that reason alone.

I know Stevens 200 is great etc - but find one in youth not in 243 -- good luck.

Whatever floats your boat and screw the rest, if it pleases you, that's all it matters. In many way this like my experience with fishing, I see guys show up with $1000 gears on the river, but can't get 1 salmon, but my average gear reel them in all day long. Who's the one laughing now? Another time I rode my Harley to a endurance rally, you should of heard what all the BMW guys in their fancy space suit had to said. But who give a s&@*%, my bike finished the rally and I had a blast. As we say in the motorcycle world, chrome don't get you home. Sure their rifle, fishing rod, bikes are very nice high quality stuff, but I ain't in no beauty contest, nor around to impress anyone.

I wish you well with your purchase and may it get you more deer then the nay sayer!

$2,500 savage? That's like a $100,000 Yugo. Stick as much bling on it as you want, it's still Yugo quality and reliability.

Neither Browning or Ruger was first with a rotary mag, look to Germany long long ago people.

This thing looks like a 770, with an accu-trigger, an X-bolt mag, and the usual cheap inexpensive hardware. Machining marks everywhere suggesting little to no work on fit and finish. It may work like a charm, and be reliable as all get out though! Ruger is attempting to get their share of that market, most likely a smart business move in their part.

Not a rifle for me, but many people will probably be very happy to own one.

Everything I've read about these rifles is good.

Personally the features seem like quite a good selection of what works on other rifles. No use reinventing the wheel.

I tried to order one from WSS last month and the told me they were A YEAR back ordered, so I went with a Savage package rifle instead.

Not sure why there are haters. If you prefer something else then buy it.

I ordered mine from Lebaron in early November.I ordered on a thursday and had it the following tuesday.

Ruger wasn't the first to copy stuff. Look at the marlin. Sort of accutrigger, but an adjustable one. Free floating bolt head like a savage. Safety like a Remington. Pillar bedded like a ?? Barrel nut like a savage. Blind mag sucks though. $279 on sale was pretty nice though for a gun that shoots as well as a Ruger 77, Win mdl. 70, Rem. mdl. 700BDL, etc., etc. I sort of like this "best of" features rifle. The Ruger American appears to be another of these and has the added benefit of a mag too. They will sell lots. I have heard they are back ordered into the millions. Sounds like a good corporate move to stay afloat and independent and still be able to put out the eye candy.

I really don't see how this thing could be backordered into the millions...

There's tons sitting on the shelves collecting dust at Wholesale Sports and Cabelas....

When i first tried to buy one,all you could get were .270 and .30-06There was a 2 month back log on .243 and .308 because of demand for these two calibers. There were lots of long actions available.

Because new people think that buying an expensive rifle will do the work for them.

Me? I am even too ashamed to say what groups I can shoot with my Norinco Bushgun in 223 (not sure that's the right name, lol).
