Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt accuracy

I have not shot that load over the chrony yet. 7.5gr 700x

I cant post pics right now. Old laptop died and I'm stuck using my cell phone till I get another.

7.5,700x, 200gr lead?? That is a hot load...Lyman lists the max at 6.6 grain at 1009fps,Hornady and Lee didn't even go over 6.3... Regardless, the Ruger can take P+ loads,And like mentioned before, they like speed. A rough estimate would be 1100 to 1200 fps.

I'd be interested in seeing what the chrony results are. The faster burning powders like bullseye and 700X were the primary powder choices for me, in 45ACP light loads, for paper punching and formal Bullseye courses of fire in the 700 - 800f/sec velocity range. To me, and in 45LC, your load with a fast burning powder like 700X, 'seems' to be on the warm side. Using a 200gr cast, I'd venture a guess you're up in the range of 1100f/sec range and around 1000f/sec with a 250gr. Myself, if I was going for that range of velocity, I'd probably go with a slower burning powder, something along the line of 2400 or 4227. A powder I've found to be fairly versatile in both light and heavy loads is Unique.

That load is a bit warm (top end of max) but it seems to work well in mine. I'm not really worried about velocity, but more concerned with accuracy. I'm just starting out with this gun so am pleased so far.

I tried to find some Unique and 231 but there is none to be found anywhere. I had to beg/borrow/steal to get 1jug 700x along with 2 of TrailBoss. Haven't tried the latter yet.

Picked up 4 lbs of TrailBoss a while back, primarily for use in a 45-70 Pedersoli Sharps and lighter cast loads in a Marlin. I'll have to give it a try in the lighter to moderate handgun loads.
In the meantime;), from the 'Master':).

Top one is mine 7.5" Blackhawk in 45 Colt.

Bottom one is a Super Blackhawk in 44Mag that I am babysitting for a fellow who is long suffering waiting for his restricted upgrade to his PAL.

I like the larger grip on the Super BH better. Should buy some ammo for it and try it out before it goes home. :)

:)Sounds like a plan. One of the 44's I have is an old model Flattop in 44Mag. A slightly different grip again.

It's been worked on and modified a bit so isn't in top condition, but it is a decent shooter, and ;)came with a set of Ruger factory staghorn grips.
