I am considering what kind of centerfire handgun (possibly .357 Magnum or maybe even .45 Colt) to buy mainly for bullseye shooting of course, I thought about getting one of these after I saw a gentleman today shooting the heck out of his target today with one at the range, caliber was .41 Magnum. I know there must be quite a few users out there, I would like to hear your impressions of it.

My 5 1/2 inch (I think) Blackhawk in .44 shoots way better than I ever will. I think .41 is becoming increasingly rare.

Aftermarket grips helped quite a bit too. The originals made it a bit tricky to get a good repeatable hold. The old adage of trying before buying is probably the most valuable advice for buying a handgun. Everyones hands are different and comfortable in different positions.

I doubt that you will hear many people say anything bad about Blackhawks anywhere thou.

Blackhawk is one hell of a famous gun among single action revolver. nice choice indeed but better go for 44 mag. Reload them become inexpensive but can give you a lot of fun.

the blue BH's have an aliminum grip frame, but don't let that stop you from
shooting one of the best six-shooters you can buy. best quality for the money, hands down! if you reload you can really take advantage of it's potential.

this gun had a "flier" :runaway: as you can see, but I've since reamed the cylinder & this has cured it.:dancingbanana:

get a single action ruger, you won't be sorry!

Consider the model with the Bisley grip frame, most of the people I know prefer it, myself included. Ruger single actions are fabulous guns, accurate and very stout, keep all the screws tight and you should have no problems.

My 0.2 cents: If for bullseye, I would search for target model S&W M25 in 45 AR. Just make sure that gun is in top shape. Get thousand cases 45 AR from Starline and get for beginning some good quality Lyman 454429 bullets, size them just to pass cylinder. M25 in 45 AR was always considered as excellent target revolver. Just be aware that same model is available in 45 LC. Now, if money is not an issue, get one of FA revolvers...

Ruger Blackhawks are great guns, and quite accurate. They wouldn't be my first choice for bullseye competition, but they are accurate enough that we used them for 200 meter silhouette shooting for years, where they worked great. I have versions in 38/357/9mm, 357 Max, 41 mag, 45 Colt/ACP/Win Mag, and 44 Mag. Plus one that is turning into a 475 Linebaugh Max. Great guns. - dan

these are also .45's. the top one is a Bisley vaquero, with a stainless steel grip frame & bottom, the Black Hawk with the plow-handle aluminum grip frame.

try to find somebody with both types and handle them, you may find you like the feel of the bisley type. some folks consider them ugly, but they sure feel good.

I had a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 long colt. it shot very well for slow fire targets, but I had trouble with rapid fire and dueling targets because of the creep in the trigger. I now shoot a S&W 625 with a 5'' barrel in .45 auto rim. it has beautiful trigger pull and is without a doubt the nicest revolver I have ever fired.
:D
