I have an early (4 digit serial number) Blackhawk in .357 magnum. It has had the safety changes from Ruger. I am looking for an set of hammer / trigger parts to return it to it's original form. Most who had the safety changes made had there original parts returned to them with the converted revolver. I have posted on the EE looking for the parts I need. Question.... if I can find a complete worn or broken parts gun I need to know which year Ruger started making the updated version from their factory and possibly which serial number is the maximum with the old parts. Thanks, Dave

Perhaps a call to Gunnar at Armco might help. He would probably be able to bring your Flattop back to it's former glory. IMHO, there was nothing unsafe about the original single action revolver design, and when Ruger introduced the Blackhawk with coil springs it was the best thing available. The new lock-work suffers in the trigger pull and the smoothness when cocking the hammer. Besides, it doesn't go "Clickity-Click" when you thumb back the hammer.

A gunsmith can still order 3 screw parts for the old model SBHs if he says they are for a Ruger Old Army, but I think these will be too large for your medium frame revolver.
