Ruger Blackhawks on sale at CT 50% off

The reviews on them are good. I picked one up today (I convinced the manager to give me the discount early) Its a well made rifle, especially at the price

I checked on-line flyer, that is the same for BC and Ontario, and no indication of a sale.

I know that stores do also have local promotions/flyers in addition to the larger catalog flyer.

So maybe this is just a lucky buy at your store, sold out in my area - wasn't on sale either.

There was a recall of SOME of the the Ruger Black Hawk Air Rifles, in Canada, because they shot 1000 fps. It was a US error in shipping and under canadian regs. required a PAL to purchase. These were shipped to Canadian Tire, and recalled 1 June 2012.

However BlackHawk rifles with the proper 495fps have also been available and were not affected by the recall. Also available at Walmart.

Yeah, stopped in today and CT in Dartmouth, NS - they said they didn't have any and were unsure how long it would be - some sort of factory recall they said. Got a rain-check though. Gives me time to do some research before they come in. Is 495fps a reasonable shot for 100ft + or should I just spend the money on a better specd rifle?

Airgunsource.com, a canadian company in Ontario, is selling the Ruger Black Hawk Air Rifle, 1000fps for $124.99, regular price.

I'm planning on buying a Beeman R9, .22 Cal, air rifle, for $530, 740 fps. This might seem like an excessive amount to spend on an air rifle, but quality and performance always wins the day. I've read piles of reviews and people tend to find lesser guns acceptable and/or lacking, and often upgrade or quit air rifles because they chose a cheap air rifle.

I already have firearms, but they're expensive to run - and limited to the range, which is closer than the wild open country. I can use an air rifle daily, year round, in the basement, for pennies a shot, some of which can be re-shot, using a soft back stop, making second use ammo free.

Over the course of a year, even in contrast to shooting an inexpensive .22lr, the air rifle will pay for itself - BUT only if it's a quality gun. The lessons of precision shooting just won't be fully realized with some cheap chinese offering.
