My latest acquisition is this little brush popper - a Ruger Frontier in 358Win with a 16" tube. Good treestand gun in brush don't you think? The pic below is from yesterday - me and my 358 - along with a shooting friend's 50cal just for contrast.

It's a fun little shooter (the 358 is implied here) with some punch too. I gotta get a better scope for it, But for now it's wearing an older Japanese made 2.5x Banner. The recoil feels like a BB gun compared to all the shooting I've been doing with my 350WSM lately. Maybe I'll get a bear with either it or the 350WSM soon. We'll see. Lots of bears everywhere around my area.

Well, i wanted that gun, so i started building one on a Stevens platform, then Ruger ( a name i have come to love) came out with one. Damn nice peice you got there, my (stevens) "frontier rifle" in 358 should be shooting by the end of the month! You shooting any pistol bullets in yours, i am working up a load for 357 dia. 158 gr Jacketed hollow points.

I - and a couple of other CGN members - managed to get them in .300WSM. They're more accurate than they have a right to be and they define handiness in the bush.:D after carring it around for a day or two you'll forget you haver it and never go back to a long barrelled gun again!

I would be very curious to see the velosity with the 220gr-225gr bullets with a 16" tube. Looks like a very nice rig!

No not yet anyway. Getting ready to slay a bear so no pistol bullets for now. Using 250 SpeerHCs and 225 Partitions to get me going
What the hell is wrong with a 358!!!!!!!!!!!! JITC
Apart from almost nonexistant overpriced factory fodder in the wrong bullet weight - absolutely nothing as many already know.

I have an initial load using IMR 3031 that is giving me 2310MV with a 225 partition. That's not a top load either. Just as far as I got so far. Should kill a a bear. My research indicates that 2450MV may be very doable as some using custom XP100s in 358 have made that with a 14 1/2" tube. Not much more I'm thinkin - we'll see. I have another load with 250 Speer HCs at 2150MV but I can make more I believe - maybe 2200 to 2250MV. Again - should kill a bear if I point the gun right.

Do they offer those little guys with real wood stocks?
In 358 no - just grey laminate. But some other calibres (like .308) and M77 compacts come in wood/blued version. Check out Ruger's website.
