I have a leapold fix 10x I mite use, but I have a fix 6x calbrated for 308 but but don't know how that will work
The fix 6x is a sweet scoop made for m14 MILSPECT !

On a small rifle you don't want a huge scope, so I would consider a 1.75-6X or a 2.5-8X Leupold. The purpose of the scope's magnification is to see the target, and if you can't see yon goat at 6X, you're too far away.
go with you 6x then. i shoot a weaver K6 on my 30-06 and on deer size i am good out to 300yrds. i dont know if you plan on taking that 5-600yrd shot. i wouldnt knowing my skills. but somtimes thats the only shot your givin
For realz? Have you ever owned a ruger compact? That scope would be bigger than the F'in rifle!
Why 14X magnification on a rifle that won't break 2800 FPS? I've seen plenty of goats where I spend time, and they're always bigger than they appear on T.V.
I,m not going to be taking no 500 or 600 yard shots

Not sure but thats my minimum for any gun..from 22lr to 300 RUM..Different stokes for different folks. Too me the 4.5-14 is a tiny little scope..
Leupold make a very nice 3X9 compact that is quite reasonable and no bigger than a fixed 4X. I believe it's a Vari X II and about 400 bucks. Actually I just checked WSS and they are on sale for 340 bucks right now. I have this scope on 2 rifles and it works well and is light and very compact for the magnification and of coarse Leupold quality and warranty.
Certainly no need to have a large and/or high power scope for hunting mountain goats.
If you can't get closer than about 200 yards, there is a good chance you couldn't get to the goat if you killed it. That is what you have to be aware of, shooting goats in cliffs too steep to get to them, after you shoot them.
I have shot several goats with an iron, aperature sight on my 30-06. I killed every goat I shot at and never once felt I needed better sights.
