So had a Deerfield that no matter what would not load the last round (#4) … other than that cycled flawlessly. Well after head scratching and comparing the spring tension in each of my 5 magazines huh? There’s some that are tight and some that are super light. It’s a pain in the butt to do but disassembly , one extra turn on the spring of those mags that did that and boom cycles 4 every time. Just in case anyone else has this issue.

Those Ruger rotating magazines can be sweet if the spring tension is properly set. As you know already, if they are not, they can be a real headache.
I take all mine apart, clean them and adjust the spring tension to be the same. Not bad to do once one practices this task!.......

Ah, I'm glad someone posted this. I was lucky enough to get 6 of these magazines with my Deerfield, but as mentioned above, two of them would either not strip the last round, or get a partially chambered stoppage. Thought they adjusted like a 10/22 magazine, but surprised to find out they don't. What's the secret?
Basically gotta disassemble… give the mag elevator an extra spin then very begrudgingly reassemble… the first one sucks but works a lot better once it’s done
Yeah this Deerfield and my Ruger 44 carbine were my favourites but I was dumb and sold my carbine. Wish we could still have mini 14s and m1a’s love the garand rolling bolt design
