Ruger GP100 6" Alternative?

Greetings!

So unfortunately I live in the lower mainland of BC where there seems to be a massive shortage of the Ruger GP100's. Called around and they all gave me an ETA of about 4-6 months...*sigh*.

I fired the GP100 a few times in the past and loved it. However I am open to the idea of broadening my horizions with similiar revolvers!

Any recommendations? Thanks guys and gals!
 
YOu may want to look into inquiring about the 4 inch barrel as well. The 6 inch is great for target shooting over the 4 which is considered compact & great primarily for home defence & target as well.

Thanks for the various inputs everyone.

I'm pretty set on the 6" since i'll be doing a lot of target range shooting. I'm told that the longer barrel will be an asset in that regard.

I will check out and do some research the S&W 686...although I have a feeling they will be out of stock as well.

Don't know where you are, but i know a place who have a 686p 7 rounds in Gatineau, Québec, same model as mine (deluxe), i love this gun.
 
The blued 6 inchers usually sell for around $500 on the EE. If you see a Security Six 6 inch they are nice as well!
 
I wasent too dead set on getting one but i really liked the 4.2 but wanted a 6 just like the op. So i asked p&d to give me a call when they got one in. A few months later i received a call from them. Went down and bought it.

No regrets in the purchase. S&w let me down on the first try and the jury is still out over a year later. The ruger has not and it ran 300$ less. I would recommend the ruger gp 100 in a heart beat. Just my experience.
 
If you've shot the GP100 and you love it, why settle for something else? These pop up on the EE pretty frequently if you wait long enough. I bought mine there and when I thought I got a good deal, a couple better deals popped up within a couple weeks after.
 
I picked up mine from a friend in a local club a couple of years ago.

Then, to 'keep it company', I picked an older model 4" SP 101 in .22LR.

IMO, there is no alternative to the GP100 if you are looking for the strongest and most ruggedly dependable mass produced medium-large frame DA 357.

The 686 is a beautiful piece but its design is not in the same strength class as the GP100, so I seldom shoot full house 357 magnums through mine.

If that is your desire, patience is what your need and a little bit of luck on the EE.

6 inch GP100s appeared with regularity couple years back when I was looking for the 4.2 incher. Have not checked the EE lately though.
 
It's not a 6 inch but there are sine sp101 4.2"ers out there.....

I don't think it is so cut and dry. S&W uses forged frames to the cast Ruger ones. Ruger makes up the difference with girth.

Don't kid yourself easyrider that is an old wives tale The S&W guns are every bit as strong as a Ruger and not only that they are much nicer to shoot and handle. The only drawback is they cost a lot more but I guess you get what you pay for.
