I'm on the market for my first handgun, I like metal gun and I don't want to pay too much and I want something fun to shoot and reliable, that's why i'm interested about that revolver. I would like your comments about this gun, is it true that we can shoot .38special with .357 revolver??? or do you have any other suggestion around 600-800 bucks ; pistol or revolver...
P.S. forget polymer guns and .22 pistols...
Thanks from a futur restricted shooter.

Though I don't own one, I've shot several Ruger .357's (I have a Ruger Redhawk .44) and I believe you're onto a good thing. Those I have tried had decent triggers, the gun is damn solid (don't worry about full-house .357's, you'll likely never wear it out) and the price is very reasonable. Alternatively, you could check out the used market for a good S&W in .357.

And yes, you can fire .38 Special in the .357! Nice to have that option.

I just got one in mint condition stainless 6". replace the springs with a wolf kit and polish up the trigger works. The cylinders were very sharp. Trigger is working in already. I have an older model the short shroud.

Had one for years, still do. Love it. Strong, dependable and accurate. The flexibility of 357 or 38spl is a bonus especially if your just learning. If you choose to go the revolver route, you'll not be disappointed with the Ruger. The 38spl is nice and light and accurate and much easier to learn the basics than using the full power 357's. You'll no doubt have folks telling u to go the Smith & Wesson route and thats fine too. I own both and like both equally, although the advantage of smoother trigger out of the box goes to the S&W. Go to a retailer and see which one fits you best. If you're just starting out, dont buy blind.
Good luck
Cheers:)

Lots of choices. CZ-75 ($600), FN Hi-Power ($700), Smith & Wesson 686 ($800), Beretta 92FS ($800). Personally, I'd go with either a 686 or a Hi-Power, depending on whether you want a semi or a revolver.

You are going to own a GP100 sooner or later...So why not make it your first handgun..

Exactly. It was my first handgun too, and still may favorite. Admittedly I'm more of a revolver guy than a semi-auto guy.

I passed my RPAL to get a semi, but my shop can't have CZ, I never tought about revolver side because it's not tactical :D , but today I had the chance to hold some great stuff like P226 and X5 ( grip isn't as big as I tought ) , springfield 1911, ruger p89 and GP100, and I felt in love with the feeling. Don't like the p89, .45 is too pricy to learn, and i'm not ready to spend a thousand bucks for Sig stuff ( in a near future sure ) and the GP100 seem to be a good platform to learn (DA/SA) and it offer a good versatility with two calibers. .38 +p or not seem not too expensive to shoot. Is 759$ a good price???

Re pricing, you may want to check around a bit more. Just for the helluvit, call Wholesale Sports or P&D(sponsors) and inquire. I would expect that their pricing even with shipping is less than that but problem may lie with availability.
Good luck:)

And another question... I'm just checking the Taurus site. Are they good revolvers? Do you have some experience with?

They are good revolvers till something goes wrong, then you find out they have no customer service at all:(

I had a Taurus Tracker in 22LR. It was a well made and well finished gun that shot accurately and consistantly. The only drawback was since this was a larger framed gun and it was 22LR (large underlug barrel with small bore size) it was a little muzzle heavy, so it became a little tiring to hold up for too long a period of time, and I've got big mitts with strong wrists.

Ruger GP100 is a much better choice than a Taurus.

I have to agree. In order of preference I would take S&W 686/586, Ruger GP100 and then Taurus.
SIR used to sell Taurus but I'm not sure anymore. Actually I'm not real sure where SIR stands with handguns. I went in there a week ago and they had absolutely no stock of any brand of .38 spl or .357 mag. WTF

You will never go wrong with a Ruger. Even if you run out of bulletst you can always beat the target, assailant, or animal to death with this solid beast of a gun.

I had the GP100 in 357 mag as my duty weapon for about 3 years and i totally agree with Safeguardguy, you can beat the s**t out of anything with that gun. You can eve use it as a hammer if you need one!!! Seriously, it is a perfect COMBAT revolver. As for precision, i did a bit of PPC with it and it wasn't too bad. Very very rugged hangun. Especially in S/S.

"...because it's not tactical..." Neither is a semi-auto.
I've had my GP since they first came to Canada. It's the only revolver I've ever owned that did not need a change of grips to fit my hand. It did, and so does any new American made firearm, require a trigger job though. That's not a big deal.
