Ruger gp100

I just bought one from P&D.
Great service.

What I'm still trying to figure out is why a 6" GP-100 is around $650.00 and a 4.2" is selling for around $775.00. $125.00 more for the same revolver that actually uses less material to make. Don't get me wrong I want one of the new ones as I like a shorter barrel on a revolver but I just can wrap my head around the price difference for a shorter barrel

Bomber, they probably make a lot more of those 6" revolvers than they do the 4.2" ones.

That, and there is a pretty high demand for them, up here.

I paid $725, so maybe the price is slowly going down.

The Canadian version of my dream revolver, i guess this is the closest I'll ever get to a Ruger with a 3" barrel. Christmas is a bad time to start saving for a revolver but i have 95% of my shopping done so let the saving begin.

It could be either the don't have a separate production line for it and they are just made out of 6" guns that are chopped down to 4.2". So the company inputs are the same as the 6" to start, then they have the added step of cutting it down, or it could be that they are a special item of special value to Canadians, and therefore worth more as the desirability goes up. Probably a bit of both.

As much as I want one, I love my twin 6" GP100's. I can't see chopping my babies, and there are other guns I'd rather have than anoth GP 100 with a slightly shorter barrel.

Ruger's MSRPs on 6" and 4.2" model are exactly the same. Unless their dealer's price is different for each model, the price premium is added here in Canada.

Just checked Impact Guns. The also list both of these models for the same price. That also makes me think that the premium on 4.20" model is added in Canada. If there are dealers here that would like to correct me, please do so.

Can't really blame the dealers... this is a first for Canada.
Before this, customers had to pay at least $200 to have a smith cut the barrel down to 4.2" on top of the gun price.

Also, who is going to buy a 6" if there is a 4.2" sitting right next to it for the same price?

I think dealers have to do something otherwise there is going to be tons of 6" GP100's that will never move. Take a loss on current stock, or, take some profit on a hot selling item?

I think they (4.2" GP100's) will drop in the new year once manufacturing has caught up and old stock 6" GP100's has moved.

I myself am waiting for a REDHAWK :D

More of a Novelty

I don't think you'll see much of a price realignment until the novelty wears off. This could happen in a number of ways: Other manufacturers start offering a competitive product, like S&W etc. The market saturates, ie: everyone who wants one gets one, which could take quite awhile a current production levels, or Ruger ramps up production, which they will only do if it increases their bottom line and believe me they have all the possible production vs. sales scenario's already mapped out. Personally, I hope we get the other manufactures option.

Well, I haven't stopped thinking about this thread... actually I've changed my mind now to get a GP100 whenever the next batch hits Canada.

In fact, today I ordered a set of aftermarket rosewood grips for it (I won't say from where) :) I'll post pics here when I've got it! (Im hoping Jan.~Feb.2010)

post more pics if anyone has got em!
