So the new gunsites are in. And i dont know how im going to scope it, id like a traditional scope for hunting.

Anyone have success mounting a 40mm scope to their gunsite?

let me know and also tell me what you going to put on yours.

why buy scout rifle if your just going to mount it in traditional fashion?

You could of bought any ruger with m77 action in 308 then...

I used my ruger scout last season with a leupold fx II fixed 4x power scope it was not ideal but worked. Needed more eye relief...

I just bought a second scout rifle for fun Savage and will be putting a Leupold FXII 2.5 scout scope on them both when I can find a retailer who has them in stock.

Burris also makes a scout scope but from what I've read people prefer the Leupold.

I did find out that Leupold is bringing out a new model / different version of scout scope very close to the FX II but new name and it is due in March and I don't want to wait.

i bought the rifle for a) back up quality iron sights and detatchable high capacity mag, and B) it looks cool and C) i would like a scout scope for fun and zombies

i was just wanted tos ee what people are doing with their rifles and if anyone has had success mounting a traditional scope.

All good points! and I agree it's a real nice rifle...

Mine came with rings as I'm sure yours did too, so you can of course mount a scope anyway you like.

Did you get any extra mags? I got some from Wolverine if you were looking.

Ya I grabbed a five round one. Haven't got it yet still being shipped. I just read it was difficult to get a largish scope on it.

How are you liking yours?

Does the rear sight on this gun quick-detach and return-to-zero? If it doesn't, then mounting a regular scope means that you will lose the back-up sight capability. If it does, then...I hope that Ruger sells them separately. It would make a nice back-up for any M77.

they require a hex wrench iirc. I want a scope for hunting and a scout scope for social situations, so needless to say i need the traditional scop first because it will actually be usefull.

Ruger Gunsite Scout

I am looking at buying one of these rifles for a "do it all" hunter/plinker. I want to buy the Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm Scout scope for it and mount it on the forward picatinny rail. I also want to keep the factory sights installed and zeroed.

So I need some good quality quick detach rings that would fit on this rail. Something that I could easily switch between the scout scope setup and the factory open sights with a few turns of the quick detach rings.

Can you guys recommend some good quality quick detach rings that would work well with the Leupolds 28mm objective, I don't want the objective sitting right on the rail but maybe a 1/4" to 1/2" above. Thanks

I don't see the rational of buying a small/handy rifle and mounting a large scope on it.

For a traditional scope for hunting on this rifle, I'd use a Leupold 1x4 or 1.5x5 or similar with QD rings to take advantage of the iron sights if needed.

If you've ever hunted in a truck you'd get it. I will get a scout scope once the new ones from leupold are released in canada

Hahaha, ya then I guess it would make a pretty handy rifle. The Leupold FXII Scout scopes arn't out in Canada yet?

they are. but theres a new one on the american market that is variable. And if i bought the current one id probaly end up buying the new one and thats not good for the wallet

Today I spoke to the Canadian Leupold distributor about the new variable power Scout scope (FXII 1.5-4x) I was told that they are considering bringing them in but they haven't done so yet..they have meeting coming regarding this item. I was promised an email with an update in the next few days or so. I will keep you all posted. Personally, I think a variable powered scout scope would give the Ruger Scout rifle a little bit more versatility. My plans are to keep the iron sights as back up.
Cheers!

If you are speaking with them again, encourage them to bring it in!

I don't yet have the Ruger, but I would love to put the variable Leupold Scout scope on my shorty Marlin lever 45/70. I already have the leupold Scout Fixed on an M1A with a forward mount.

Love it!
