Hey guys

I’m looking to downsize a little and am considering selling a few guns and buying one of these as a range toy/deer rifle. I’d probably mount a decent 4-16 scope on it, with turrets, and use it for a double duty setup. I won’t be setting this up in a “scout” configuration, just a rugged, reliable “do it all” sort of rig.

I’m looking for info from guys who own/have owned them. What can you tell me about them? What kind of accuracy were you getting? With what ammunition? What bullet weights do they tend to shoot well. How reliable have they been, etc.

Any helpful information would be appreciated.

I have a SS/laminate version with the 18" barrel. Set up in scout style with 2.5x scope. Shoots MOA with Norma 150gr SP. Fun gun.

I have 3 GSRs in different configurations. My 18" stainless .308 has a bushnell 3-9 conventionally mounted likes the Norma 150gr SP ammo and shoots it MOA.

My 16" braked .350 with XS sight rail and Leupold 2-7 shoots 150gr ammo sub MOA and 165gr FTX MOA but it's quite loud

Quickly became my favourite do it all rifle, mine shoots 1”-1 1/2” with most factory ammo I’ve put them it. Haven’t bothered to handload for it yet as it is more than accurate enough with the factory ammo I have stocked up and hunt with, 165-180gr shoots the best. 180gr Winchester superX is what I’ve been shooting deer with, but Fed blue box, Hornady American whitetail, Rem core-lokt all shoot well. Groups open up after the third shot in a 5 shot string if I don’t let the barrel cool between shots but it’s not a heavy barrel.

Get the xs sight full length rail if you want to run a scope not in a scout set up, it’s got a nice rear peep built in to the rail.

Here’s a 100m sight in from when I got it, the high left is shot #1. This was with Win superX 180gr

I have a 308 and 556 version. Both are boringly accurate. I shoot the cheap Winchester 150 factory loads in my 308 and it always clusters them in nice one inch groups. I wouldn’t write off the scout scope configuration until you try it. I use a 2.5 Leupold and find it great out to 300 meters. I have been using a Holosun red dot for the last year and it works great as well. I found the factory aperture sight was also very effective so there is no shortage of good options for this rifle. Nothing bad to say from my experience.

I agree, get the xs rail. scout set up never worked for me.
working with a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4.
try not to overpower the compact rifle with a big scope.
they are more accurate than you would expect.
the 16'' is LOUD.

I have the left-hand version, .308, 16" barrel. I tried the scout setup and didn't like it. I mounted an XS rail with a Nikon 3X32 Tactical scope. I also removed the flash hider.
It shoots MOA with any ammo I've tried in it. It's probably quite capable of sub-MOA, the only thing holding it back is me.

The bolt felt a little gritty when I first got it. Lots of gun oil and working the bolt a couple hundred times slicked it right up.

It's been my go-to hunting rifle since I bought it 8 years ago.

Check out this thread. Lots of great info.

I'm not a fan of clips so I just got a compact. The short 16.5" barrel is louder but not nearly as bad as muzzle brakes.
I tried the scout scope on a different rifle for several years and just couldn't get used to it.
