Hi
Where can i find a ruger gunsite scout model 6803
I can't find it in stock,
It's the model with laminated stock and black finish barrel.

Thanks

Unless you want that particular rifle, you can save almost half the $ and get an M77, I've owned both and they're "basically" identical unless you need that scout mount or the 'adjustable' stock.

They added the "bottom metal" (actually, bottom plastic), and they chopped the stock, added those ridiculous little plastic spacers, and put a birdcage on it. It's the same gun, but literally double the price. I suppose the etched "gunsite" on the receiver is nice, but it doesn't make it a different rifle. In fact, for the $, they should have given us a lot more metal, even aluminum if weight was the issue. It's a grossly overpriced gun.

I’m with Chappy on that, I’m a Model 70 guy, through and through.....but,as soon as I’ve laid my mits on the GSR,ran first 20 rounds through it, I was smitten. The action,at first was a bit “bindy”, but after cycling it a few hundred times, cleaning it, it’s smooth, very easy to “bolt flick” whilst shouldered, rapid palm cycling.....this thing is a fighting gun.
The irons are great, poly mags are great, overall carry and handling characteristics are great (on par with M70 compact classic).
Set it up nicely with a shooting sling, I have Andy’s Ching sling on mine, excellent product. Rear sling stud, I moved 2 inches forward, for better African carry.
2.5 EER Leupold makes snap shooting accurate,effective.....RDS fast, I like it.
1in10 twist in a 308 is great, very accurate with 168’s,adequate for pretty much anything I’m capable of as a shooter.

The only negative, and this is MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION, it lacks a stripper/charger clip guide......this rifle would benefit greatly from stripper loading capability.

M77 safety is not my favourite, but, neither is M70......I do prefer CZ “backwards” safety, thumb it back to fire, forward to put it on safe......but that’s just my ergonomic preference.

Other than that, the GSR, is well worth the price, the hype, all the hoopla about it.....GET ONE.

Very well said dash!
You've really covered the bases in your post as to what makes these great rifles.
One thing I will add is how good the magazine system is on the GSR,particularly the factory polymer mags. I love the fact that they are able to be top-loaded while inserted in the rifles magwell.
I have other rifles with their own propriety detachable systems and you have to drop the mag from the rifle to reload them.most of the ejection ports on newer rifles won't permit top loading anyway.
I agree with you that a stripper/charge clip guide would be the ultimate!

Roger on that,Mr Sun&Steel. Topping off from the action is very useful, mine single/chamber feeds very well.....shoot one, throw one in the chamber,or, “finger” one into the mag....very slick.
One problem I have with Ruger,is they won’t sell polymer stocks to Canadski’s....I need one badly, so I can paint it up with daisies and kittens.

Try Snapshots, rugers' canadian warranty center. I have heard from others they were able to purchase a GSR poly stock from them.

Thank you kindly for that, I will try them.
I swear to Jupiter God of Lightning, if, I get one of those, I’ll paint it up like The Beatles’ RollsRoyce.....

Lipsey's 308 scout rifle

I just received a nice Lipsey's model in 308,16.5 inch barrel. I bought the bottom metal and trigger guard to rid a beautiful gun of plastic that should never have been on it in the first place

I’d like to see that, lol. Giving me ideas, for mine...

I wasn't convinced that I wanted the GSR but did want the detachable mags so I bought a GSR stock and PT&G bottom metal for my Ruger M77 compact. The mags need a little trimming to fit.

I almost bought a Ruger Gunsight Scout rifle but my friends rifle will not function at all with surplus ammo. I bought a Tikka T3x Battue instead. Lighter and way better sights. Only down side is plastic 5rd mags that cost 100 millions dollars each.

The barrel is heavier profile too and you get sights (you always pay out the butt for open sights these days) The only thing that is the “same” is the action. I agree it’s “overpriced” but if your patient and wait for a sale you can walk away with a fairly capable rifle.
