Pulled the barrel off the Ruger. Here’s the answer for the weight of Ruger MKII/Hawkeye action. Should save about 10oz going with the Tikka action.

Why do you need to drop half a pound, are your moose at 8000 feet?

If you are trying to extend your range, I have had very good luck with the 225 Accubond.
I don't "need" to but I want to. I always liked that .35 Whelen that Rembo re-barreled for me (you ended up with the original .30-06 barrel) and it was always meant to be my moose rifle. However it is heavy and chunky. I also have a Nightforce SHV 3-10 on it which is a great reliable scope but also heavy. I tried a few different stocks on it but that didn't help either. It weighs in at 9.5 Lbs atthe moment. It's been sitting in the back of the safe for the last few years because there was always a handier option. As a matter of facts, I shot my moose last fall with my Winchester 70 in .300WSM with the same Nightforce at a pound lighter.

When I found out that the Bevan King barrel would fit on a soon to be redundant Tikka it seemed like a no brainer. Lighter action, lighter bottom "metal", more and lighter stock options, same with rings. It's reving my interest in my Whelen and will be my moose rifle again.

As you are well aware, rifle projects are rarely about needs!) ;)

Yup, I fully support any and every hairbrained idea you might come up with that pleases you! Case in point, that .30-06 barrel got set back 1/2", rotated under and chambered to 7.62X57 Hoytcanon! Lol... it plunked several animals before a buddy talked me out of it. So, I had Bob Jury spin me a new one for the new stainless 7.62X57 HC to go with my Walnut/Blued Carbine. Crazy? Maybe, but it is a very pleasant cartridge to shoot and settles the .308/.30-06 debate... at least in my cabinet. Carry on with your... gag... barf... Tikka. 😁

That's a really sweet rifle Steve!!

Love a good Tikka, especially stainless. Nice overall weight there!

Great cartridge... try the 250 HC's... poor man's Partitions... they have performed great for me in .35 Whelen and .350 Rem Mag.
