Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan vs Guide Gun

You don't see much of these showing up at retailers lately, I wonder if Ruger is still producing them or exporting them to Canada? We only seem to get Ruger Americans and PCCs on a regular basis.

I hated my Hogue stock on my 375 Ruger Alaskan. Horrible feeling stock. I ened up putting a B&C on. I know there are better stocks than B&C, but for the money, it is like a different gun. Looks good, feels good and shoots better (probably because its bedded properly now). I found it to be a great upgrade for a rifle I dont use a ton. I got mine from Prophet River.
A friend had the guide gun version and its very heavy compared to mine.

I have a 375 ruger alaskan.
I love the hogue stocks. I have 3 guns with them.
I have big hands so the fit nice.
They take a beating. Grippy even when wet.
I also like plain black steel rims on my trucks. Because it works.

My Alaskan shoots 235g tsx @ 2810fps and 300g SBT at 2565fps. Both sub moa.

Mine is a pre muzzle break. Which I prefer.

I'm not a fan of the Hogue stocks but I admit they are pretty serviceable. I would take a Hogue over a laminate on a hunting rifle, I'm really not a fan of laminates on hunting rifles.

I replaced my Hogue with a macmillan but I don't think they are making them anymore. I'm sure some other aftermarket stocks exist though.

I love the Hogue buttstock I put on my Rem 870 12 ga. Haven't tried the Hogue rifle stocks out yet but have had numerous laminates on rifles over the yrs.
The plywood units are strong, but add too much extra weight fer me liking.

Mine is pre-muzzle brake as well and I also greatly prefer that from both an aesthetics perspective and not deafening myself while hunting.

The Hogue stock works, I don't love it but haven't felt that I must replace it either, and I don't care about treating it a bit roughly either.

not to hijack but I am in desperate need of a shorter front sight for my alaskan.....love the irons but they shoot way low for me....

I’d pick laminate over Houge if I had the choice, although I don’t mind the Houge stock. Have a Howa 1500 in one and it’s plenty fine for hunting, I like the ergos of it and ended up painting it. Had zero adhesion issues with painting over the rubber over mold

What does the insert look like, maybe NECG makes a replacement?
they do. I put NECG sights on my gun, front was tight fit but it went in
They can't tell you what height you need, so getting a fiber optic correct can be a gamble, solid blades can just be filed down as required

I went with the laminate stock on my first 'guide gun' before that was a marketting label. Reasoned the laminate had better resale value whne I went to a composite, I was right
