Hi all,

Have any of you had experience with this model, with emphasis on out of the box accuracy?

I have handled them and wasn't super impressed by the plastic stock quality but I really like the Ruger actions, solid scope mounts, safety and am looking for an affordable, rugged 'working rifle'. The other choice would be the 'Sporter' model (lam stock).

Thanks

I have the all weather M77 MarkII which is very similar (bought it the year the Hawkeye came out, as it was discounted). I bought the 223 version. Despite the plastic stock, and the fact it isn't full floated, it shoots very well. Certainly up to the task for long distance varmint shooting.

I have 2 of the newer Rugers, 1 is a hawkeye in 35 Whelen and other is a Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger. When I hand load up some Barnes bullets both run around the 1" mark at 100yds. Pretty good guns for the money.

I have a few stainless Ruger M77 MKII's. I had stainless Hawkeye in 358win which was excellent right out of the box. I only sold it because I have too many rifles that are in the similar power range.

You described it best: they are an affordable, rugged working rifle.

Good luck.

James

I have regular M77 Hawkeye with walnut stock.
still works good when soaked wet. the rifle is about 20 yeras old and barrel seem to work fine still

Been using this one for a few years now, at the range it is around an inch, 1.5

I prefer the stock on it to my Savage, it's too soft.

I agree that they have better stocks than Savage, I had one in 30-06 sold it to buy one in 338 WM both were accurate, I put Boyd's stocks on both rifles and I have no intention of selling the 338, I was however aware of a slightly heavy trigger pull at the range [compared to Savage acccutrigger or a Weatherby Vanguard], never noticed it when I shot a deer with the 30-06 or a Bison with the 338.

i have a hunting partner thats very hard on guns. he has the all weather ruger in 30-06. he never cleans it and bungie cords to the quad rack. it shoots moose and deer every year. holding up very well

I have one in .338 Federal ...first thing I did was replace the trigger which came in at about 6.5 pound pull ...I am now down to 2.5lbs and a lot less creep.

Accuracy is good, around 1 moa.

I would take the rifle to a gunsmith and have them work the trigger, rather than buy aftermarket. The stock trigger can be made to work perfectly for what most hunters want.

I just got back from the range with my 'new' Ruger M77 Mk II all weather in 30-06 and at 80 yards it was printing one ragged hole. The older triggers are excellent and easy to tweak. Not sure why anyone would want to swap out one of these triggers.
