Ruger Hawkeye Compact

Once again, thank you very much WhelenB, and others for the info, much appreciated.
Now, another question that comes to mind:
What accounts for the Frontier weighing in at 6.85 lbs vs. the compact in
.308 at 5.75 lbs?
From Ruger web site:
HM77CR 17105 .308 Win. 4 16.50" 35.50" 5.75 lbs. 1:10" RH

Is it the stock? the scout mount on the Frontier? Other factors?
For a rifle that tiny and short, almost 7lbs sans scope is a bit weighty, no?

^ It's got a heavier contour barrel + the rib.
yep - it's a chunky little magnum contour barrel and the laminated stock is clubby thick in the forend. The newer Hawkeye compacts have a lighter slimmer tapered forend - look far nicer IMO. With the rings (5 ozs) mine may (?) even weigh in a little over 7 lbs sans scope - but not sure.

I have one in 260 and absolutely love it. I get 3/4 inch groups at 200yards. The only downside is the barrel heats up quick but hey its not a range rifle. You wont regret it.

I have the latest version of the frontier (has the compact stock) in the VERY limited chambering of .338 federal .....LOVE the gun :)

Got myself my new deer riflle. If you know your hunting gone be within 125 metres a Ruger 77 44 bolt action Allwheater with a 1.25X 4 Trijicon with 5 bullets tip the scale at 6.75 pounds. This 44 mag rig is ideal and powerful Ruger is very good stuff.... PS: When you make your first kill with a 44 mag you just understand you don't need the 308 or any other calibers no more, just my 0.02 cents. JP.
