Does someone have a ruger hawkeye with the patend scope rings, I would like to know how is it, rifle comes with rings but what is the height? can we put something else or just rings from ruger, is it a dovetail with threaded holes?

thank for your help

I love Ruger rings, they are solid as heck, very strong. I think the Hawkeye is a great rifle.

The Hawkeye comes with factory no. 4 and 5 rings and these should allow you to mount up to a 40mm (maybe 42-ish) objective without issue, depending on barrel profile, rear sight etc. I would say they are likely the same height as leupold 'mediums' but am not sure. I have no issues with cheek contact on the Hawkeye or No1 with factory rings. You can also order lower or higher rings.

Some manufactures make a Ruger-weaver adapter base but I would have no reason to prefer weaver/picatinny or other common rings systems over the Ruger mounts.

I was very happy with the Ruger rings that came with my wife's M77 Hawkeye compact, the quickest and easiest scope installation I've done yet. The receiver has two short, rounded dovetails with a groove across that top for the cross lug of the ring. All in all, a very simple, solid system in my opinion, I see no reason to use anything different unless your optics won't fit any of the options. Kayaker1 gave accurate info, the two rings are different heights, so one number apart makes a pair, should you need different heights than supplied.

Ruger rings are proprietary, but work very well... they are solid and when locked down, they don't move. The receiver on M77's is stepped, requiring two different ring Heights with the taller ring in the rear position. The rings are designated #3 (low), #4 (Medium), #5 (High), #6 (Extra High). So with the M77's you will need a 3/4, or 4/5, or a 5/6. Ruger models 77/22, 77/17, 77/357, 77/444 and No.1's have level ring mounting, requiring the same height ring front and back. Rings with a "B" designation are blued and rings with a "K" designation are silver... if they are Matte finish there will be an "M" in the designation also.

My only beef with Ruger rings is that they tend to rotate the scope as they are tightened down... tighten slowly from side to side and recheck the scope level as you go.

My more recent Rugers, especially the stainless steel ring models were roughly finished inside the scope ring bores. If one tightens down the ring screws to much whilst fiddling with scope alignment, it would be too easy to scratch the surface of the scope.

I always check the smoothness of the ring bores & ease of which the scope drops into the rings before I start proper alignment & adjustment procedure. If they be tight, I align bore them with a 400 grit finish inside.

i like the factory ruger rings. they are great and easy to use.

but there are some other options especially if you need quick detach rings and they are available on lh or rh actions.
