Ruger in 17 HMR

Thanks for all the information. I checked out the links and have looked at some of the options. I didn't want to go to Remington because the 10/22 has such an increadible reputation. However the Remington does sound nice and looks amazing. see http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/rimfire_rifles/model_597/model_597_magnum_LS_HB_specs.asp

Although I do not want to spend a huge amount on a rimfire semi, this might be the only rifle available at this time for out of the box fun. Again TNX

I have a 10/17 I made out of a 10/22mag. I have no problems at all. I have had 1 bent case and thats all.I have shot a case out of it and have just cleaned when it goes back into the safe. Great little gun.

The idea is to do enough paper punching to prepare myself to go small game hunting, honour the tradition and teach my son how to shoot, and to find a very good exuse to spend with the little guy some quality time outdoors, just exploring this vast and wonderful country.

:) :) :)

Ruger never actually "released" any 10/17's they had prototypes but none ever left the door for the Public Market . The 10/22 Mags (I have owned 2) were a good gun ,But they ran into problems with the extraction of spent cases with the single extractor models, So someone thought "lets put 2 in" well the second extractor did nothing and most people took it out and put in a VQ extractor on the right side and that was the fix. Now with the second hole in the bolt left empty ,Some bolts started to Crack and now you have a broken (tunsken alloy $$$$) Bolt . Well you can see wear costs might go ....steel recivers.... Super expencive bolts ........ waranty etc..........
A good extractor worked !

Now the problem with the 17HMR is not the gun........Its the cartrage in a blow back. Any peice of crap builds up on that sholder chamber ..... shell dosent chamber properly .....rimfire ===== BANG

22mag ,22LR NO problem . After putting ###X$$$$$$$$ into my 10/22mags and they just became range queens and to afraid to put a mark in them I bit the bullet ,sold them for $###X.00 each .
But I still love the 22mag in a semi ............. AND I hated all 597's to the death due to bad experiances with ones that freinds owned , I bit the bullet and bought the 597 HB laminated for $400 and I couldent be more happeyer with it .1000+ rounds not a hickup ..........even bought one in 22lr to match it .
Nothing beats my 10/22 in my eyes but the 597 aint all that bad now.
would I buy one in a 17? Not a chance , you couldent give one to me

My 2 bits
