Ruger Integral Rings

Front & rear are the same on the #1. Try mounting the rings loosely on the reciever and then tighten rings to lapping bar before tightening them to the reciever. There is often play where the rings mount.

Ruger rings are the worst, sometimes the receivers aren't straight either. You should see how crooked my 270 is. Clamp the rings to the bar to get them half straight then tighten them down to the bases, see if that helps.

I thought about that, but I'm skeptical that they would hold their position, once I remove the top half of the rings.

I might as well just put the scope in the rings, tighten it down, and then tighten the base.

I think that would place unwanted stress on the optic.
Don't think its been mentioned yet, but perhaps you should consider epoxy-bedding the scope in.

My last Alaskan came with an egg-shaped front ring and the rear ring had no thread for one screw, so after a brief search for a scope with an egg-shaped tube I returned them to Ruger via registered mail with a letter requesting replacement.
Two years have passed and have yet to hear from Ruger, but a set of Warne QD rings solved the problem.
