wow,

I just seen a review on a Ruger M77 Scout, and i'll have to say i like it! I really like the magazine look. I wonder if its possible to get an aftermarket 24" 1:10 twist heavy barrel for it? Would it be possible to retrofit a boyd's thumbhole stock as well? i think that would be right cool!

any thoughts?

yep, just the way i like 'em! Im gonna look into this. I sure havnt seen any of these m77 Scout's, where can a guy find them in Canada? better yet a used one.... ;-)

They seem to be fairly uncommon, as they are a bit of a niche gun. Never been to Manitoba myself so I can't offer help local to you.
I think P&D Enterprises, a forum sponsor, has one but I haven't looked too closely lately.
Anyhow if you're ever near Edmonton let me know and you can try out mine.

Do yourself a favour and forget the "right cool/magazine look". Just buy heavy bbl Savage or Remington etc, etc instead. You'll probably save enough cash to buy a decent scope and get shooting a lot sooner.

I guess the question would be why? It would be cheaper to purchase a Remington Varmint (a heavy 26" barrel), XCR or something like that. Have a gunsmith refit the stock to remove the floorplate for the removable magazines and buy yourself some aftermarket 10 shot mags.

Don't forget to affix sights on it. That option will be way cheaper than the option you had suggested.

T But putting a 24 inch barrel on one would really defeat the whole purpose of the gun

The real purpose of the rifle is to sell..Thats the reason Ruger built it...

If they built it to be a true scout rifle, it would weigh in at 6.5,lbs with scope & sling...Not 7lbs bare rifle..

IMHO, It's the 10 shot mag that sells. I wish other manufacturers would pick up the ball and start offering some shorter barrel, high capacity magazine, accurate (not just accurate enough), sub 1K bolt actions.
