Ok, I now own a Ruger M77 in a 35 Whelen. I would like to find a good all around load for that rifle. I have some 225grn AccuBond's I want to try. The rifle has 1:16" twist. Who out there has some suggestions.:HFU:

With a 1:16 twist, you're wise to stick with nothing heavier than 225 grs.

The popular powders with that bullet weight are: RL-15, IMR4064, Varget and 4895. Depending on your brass capacity and OAL, you can probably work up to full cases of those powders.

Thanks Andy, I do have some 4064 & 4895. I also have a lot of 3031 which I've herd works well to. When I bought this rifle I got 50 rounds of loaded ammo with 250 Hornady bullets. I was shown a target that was, if I remember correctly 1" or less group.

In a 35 cal bore, a 1:16 twist will theoretically only marginally stabilize a 250 gr bullet, but if it works in your gun, you're good - practice trumps theory. That's the same bullet I use in my 35 Whelen, but I have a 1:12 twist barrel.

Ther are probably 10 other powders that will work well in the 35 Whelen with a 225 gr bullet, IMR3031 included. The Hodgdon and Alliant sights list them.

A friend of mine had a 35 Whelen and he had his best results with IMR 4320, just another choice especially if you happen to have that powder already.
