.I was reading a recent magazine article about someone using a Ruger all weather rifle on an Alaskan peninsula deer hunt-and as they said''used it for almost everything short of a canoe paddle''and it held up very well

I wouldnt doubt it. These rifles are built to last.

I see they make a RUGER ''ALL WEATHER''in 350 magnum-and that could tempt me for a moose /bear gun.I was reading a recent magazine article about someone using a Ruger all weather rifle on an Alaskan peninsula deer hunt-and as they said''used it for almost everything short of a canoe paddle''and it held up very well

I have one of these (as well as the canoe paddle 308) in 350RM and I just dropped in a Rifle Basix trigger. It is a nice improvement for sure. I may have to do the 308 next.;)

Yep it is. It's not the lightest stock but with a .35 Whelen I wouldn't want it to be either. It also has a nice thick squishy recoil pad.

Looks exactly like my 338, but the scope is different :D

The weight of the hogue stock, and the pad make it kick like a 308... The stock weigh's 2lbs 13 oz's, and the total package weighs 10 lbs loaded with the burris scope...
Not a lightweight, but I dont think I'd want a 338 lightweight anyway...

It would though for me to say that I don't like yours:D . Mine is presently at Bits of Pieces for a beadblasting to knock that shine down and trigger job. I'll post pics when I get it back.

Hey BC Steve - VERY VERY nice 35Whelen you have there. I once had a M77 MkII stainless in 30-06 that was was slated to be rebored to 35 Whelen. But after shooting a few deer with it in its 30-06 form, I sold it in a moment of weakness.

However pretty soon (4-6 weeks) I'll be finished my Ruger M77 MkII All Weather stainless custom in 350 WSM. I'm rechambering my 350 RemMag M77. Just like you I'm toning down the shine at the same time.

Thanks Whelen B. 350 WSM, that sounds pretty cool, what kind of speed are you expecting out of it? That will be a short stubby cartridge. Be sure to make a thread with pictures when you get it.

x2

I would like to know what kind of performance you get out of it.

10th ed of cartridges of the world shows the 35 Sambar (same as 350WSM) sending a 250 at 2700MV using H4350. That may not be the optimum powder for kicking a 250 out the the front door with top speed. I think that 2750 with a 250 will be doable with the best powders - maybe 2800MV if I throw the gun precisely when I pull the trigger.:D
Here's a pic of the cartridge - http://35cal.com/350wsm.html
