Ruger M77 cratering. Pics added

Seeing that ring on a proof tested rifle is not unusual and comes from leakage around the primer. Should have been cleaned off. Apart from that, it's a bit homely but that's par for the course, I think.

It's just a black ring that can be scraped off. I wonder if they paint the face with a compound and fire it to see if the face makes good contact with the case. There's some of that black stuff around the outer edge too.

Amazing what one eye sees.. right now to me that 'black ring' appears to have depth as if it was cut out...

Please scrape it off and take another picture... scrub the bolt face with 0000 steel wool...

I have made a few phone calls. Doesn't seem like there is much interest. Most say phone Ruger. Ruger won't touch it. Weber and Markin are going to look into it. They haven't done one. Proving more difficult than I thought.

Should not be a real big deal. Bushing the bolt face will fix it. I'm sure there are several 'smiths who can do this for you and I would expect Chris would be one of them.

I finally got it repaired. I phoned Weber and Markin a bunch of times. Always got told that they would phone me back in a few days. Gave up on them.
No one else seemed interested at all.
I took it to the gun shop in town. They have a guy. Dropped it off on Friday afternoon and was called to come get it on Saturday morning.
Bolt face has been drilled and tapped with a bushing threaded it. Drilled and looks excellent. $120.
PM me if you want details of the guy.

One day i will have to do my 1958 or so vintage Winchester Model 70. The firing pin hole is off center from the factory. Pretty good rub mark on the side of the pin nose, but other than not striking primers perfectly centered, it has not proven a problem. Yet.
