Ruger M77, have some questions.

I currently own a 77mk II leftie stainless and its a tack driver. A tad on the heavy side but its a 30-06 so that is probably for the better. I dont know anyone that has a bad thing to say about the 77s. Sure its not a Sako but then with a Leupold VXIII 2-8 on it that would just pay for the Sako. Its for hunting and as long as it is reasonably accurate and reliable I am happy with it.

I'm not so sure about reducing the trigger sear THAT much, and the trigger could do with a slight rear raking angle IMHO. But nice to see what can be done.
I'd like to err on the side of caution that's all. Even if it does mean a 3lb pull instead of a 1.8lb.

i never said i don't like ruger because i burnt the barrel out. nor did i say i don't like rugers.

reasons i don't want ruger include

-floor plate
-trigger isn't an accu but the one i had was no sluch either
-seemingly heavy for what i got in return
-stock didn't fit me
-and the barrels are junk :D no seriosly it was a tack driver for the first 3 lb of powder

As I'm sure you have deduced by now there are no end of opinions on different makes of rifles. I own and have owned over the past 40 years vitually every make of modern bolt action known (maybe slight exagerration)
but certainly most, many rugers, remingtons, sakos, winchesters, military and commercial 98s,weatherby, voere, browning etc etc etc.
Feel free to buy a Ruger and shoot the hell out of it, it will not fail you nor will any of the other big manufacturers. All rifles have their pros and cons but these are more percieved than real. All I'm saying is buy whatever turns your crank and you needent worry about the strength.
I have abused (pressure wise) Rugers, Rems, Wins etc and none ever catastrophically failed. Have had some problems but all were created by yours truly. I am a crazy wildcatter and amature gunsmith so I've done s**t no one should do, in the quest for various improvements in ballistics etc.
One thing for sure our modern bolt action rifles are super strong and you needent worry one bit with whatever you choose to buy and shoot.

I own a Ruger M77 that I bought off a fellow CGN'er (.308) for 550$, barely used, came with iron sights, and I love it. Accurate, tough little rifle. I would prefer it had a magazine, but, the floor plate design isn't that bad. I like the scope rings that came with it. A day before hunting season I took it out to sight it in and put two rounds through a poppy at 100yards. A few days later I nailed a doe right through the heart at nearly the same distance. I also like the three position safety, easy to use, as its right by your thumb and easy to slide off.

With that rifle, and my lee enfield for back-up, I'm set. I highly reccomend buying one.
 
Love my Mark II 30-06. Shoots great, looks great.

Am planning on getting a timney trigger installed on it though, but after that the only drawback to it i find is that its a little heavier than other makes.

Plan on buying more someday still though!
