When, (and perhapse why too!) did Ruger stop making these? If you found one, where would you find it and what would it be worth?

I could have sworn the stainless all-weather bolt action was still in the catalog, but its gone.....

My gueass at why they stopped producing them is that they realized that leveraction .44s are infinitely cooler and also that you could buy a similar rifle in 7.62x39 and the ammo was cheeper than .44 mag

I have the stainless version, and love it. I am used to bolt guns, and I liked the detachable mag versus the mag tube that most lever actions have. I have a low power scope on mine and it shoots great out to about 150 yards. Hope to try it out on some game this fall.

I'm pretty sure Ruger ditched the bolt gun in order to bolster the sales of both the semi and lever, neither of which are cool. :)

Ruger 77 MkII .44 Magnum

Had a blued one once with walnut stock. NIB with the factory rings... Swapped a NIB 24" barrel Winchester '94 Legacy rifle in .44 Mag for it... Later sold the Ruger for around $650'ish IIRC........ kinda wish I'd kept the Winnie, though...

I bought mine new from Gagnon's just a couple of years ago. I think it was still catalogued at that time. Blued and walnut.

And any classically-styled rimfire-sized rifle that looks this good and produces holes that big is definitely cool!

I only wish that I could find a load that produced better than the 3" groups I'm getting now. It's fun looking for that one good load, especially when the holes are so d**n big!

Did I mention that it's cool?

John

p.s. When I find the magic solution to good accuracy out of this gun, it will be infinitely cooler.

77-44

i just traded into one.
its not here yet but the guy i got it from said it shoots well, i'll know more later. but i think an extensive bedding job and either freefloat or full bed on the barrel should do it. some trigger work and load development.
some of the older models apparently had too slow a twist. if i can get 2" or less with a 250 gr cast. that will work just fine for me.
